Re: I'm going to open up a Pandora's box here
Well in today's paper (NY Daily News), they pretty much stated that:
(1) Wagner used the song WELL before Mo ever did...
(2) Neither Wagner NOR Rivera care that the other cross-town closer is using the song.. in fact, both were pretty humble and complimentary of each other..neither feel there is any reason why they BOTH cannot use the song they always have!
TO me, the case is closed. Both should be able to use the song as they always have throughout their careers. I dont believe Wagner should even think about changing it just because he plays in NY now (and yes, this is coming from a YANKEE fan )
The only time it will ever really be an 'issue' (if you can call it that) is during the Subway Series.. but even then, the fans really should 'get over it.'
To me and all my fellow Yankee fans, it'll always represent Rivera coming in to save a game. And to the Mets fans, maybe it'll be the start a new legacy in Queens

What did I tell ya? LOL
Plus.... who do you think actually LISTENS to Metallica more on their off time?
Rivera probably couldn't even name the lead singer if he had to. Who knows... maybe he doesn't even know who sings the song either.

i really don't care who walks out to what
he...if he wants to bite off someone elses identity...so be it
Then Mo should stop using the song... considering Wagner was using it before.
This is laughable. Me frankly... I don't care if both guys use it. Big deal.

There are no "rights" to songs... and if any Yankee fan is ****** about this.... all I can do is
Well I'm a Yankee fan and I'm not pizzed about it at all So please do not categorize Yankee fans in general
Quite frankly, I could care less 90% of the time WHAT goes on with the Mets, their new closer or otherwise I mean no disrespect by that statement either. The only time I really care about the Mets is when they are playing the Yankees. Any other game of the season, I wish them well, since they aren't our direct competition anyhow
This "Enter Sandman" story.. well to me, it sounds like a story that the MEDIA is just looking to PUSH to create yet another "NY rivalry" over (IMO anyhow)
Just too too silly
I agree that it's all media. Every Yankee fan I know says that they really don't care what song Wagner is using. And I'm not so sure that Wagner used it first. According to this story they both started using it in the same year. Again, I really don't care and have no problems with what Wagner uses. And I guess Mo doesn't care either.
OAKLAND -- Metallica's "Enter Sandman" was a hot topic of conversation in New York on Tuesday, as fans argued over Mets closer Billy Wagner's use of the tune as his entrance music. Wagner, who has used the song to walk in from the bullpen during his days in both Houston and Philadelphia, was accompanied by it as he entered Monday's game at Shea Stadium. Wagner started using the song in 1999, though he hasn't used it exclusively.
The Yankees started playing the tune for Rivera in 1999, though he had never heard it before. It has become a staple of home games in the Bronx, with the fans rising to their feet upon hearing the first few notes.
"I love it when the song comes on and those doors open up. It identifies when I'm going to pitch," Rivera said. "It's something the fans like, they identify me with the song, and some of them call me 'Sandman' now."
After being informed that Wagner's use of the song had started a controversy in New York, Rivera was all smiles.
"I think it's funny," Rivera said. "To the people that are fighting over this, I appreciate the loyalty."
Rivera, who met Metallica singer James Hetfield last season at Yankee Stadium, admitted that he doesn't listen to Metallica, opting instead for Christian music on his iPod. That said, Rivera has become a fan of the song after hearing it at the stadium for the past seven years.
As for Wagner's use of "Enter Sandman," Rivera believes that the song is big enough for both of them to use.
"He's a great guy and he has all my respect," Rivera said. "I don't mind it at all. If the guy feels comfortable using the song, let him be."
