I'm going to the Hauppauge DMV after work

Are they nicer than the ones in Bethpage?

I have this irrational fear of DMV people. I have to:

Change my last name on my registration & title
Change my address on everything
Replace a lost registration
Renew my registration

And I don't have my original marraige license or my registration. Lost 'em both. I do have a copy of my marraige license at least.

I'm just envisioning them chastising me for needing too much in one visit and not allowing me to do it all!

Tell me I'm not alone in dreading or fearing the DMV.

I've never been to Bethpage, but Hauppauge stinks! Sooo crowded (maybe because the courts are there?) and you have to go through metal detectors, etc. Be prepared for a long wait. Are you close to another one? I had a MUCH shorter way at the Port Jeff Station DMV.

You will need your original marriage certificate or a certified copy. I am pretty sure they will not change anything without seeing one of those. I'd definitely call ahead.

also they will make you take a new picture when you change your name.....just to give you a heads up.

Ok, you are NOT making me feel better.

I already changed my name on my driver's license and took a new picture - I didn't have my title or regi with me to do the rest. So I put it off till now.

I work in Hauppauge so it's the closest. But if Port Jeff is really that much better, I don't mind going over there.

Do you think I should go to the Port Jeff DMV instead? I've never been to any of them out here.

If you're already in Hauppauge I would just go there.
By the time you get up to Port Jeff, you may have been done at Hauppauge.

ETA: If you renewing your reg, why are you getting a replacement?

the bethpage one is better!

hauppauge is awful... I live right there but I'd rather go to the Bethpage one on my lunchbreak.

just FYI: you can only complete 3 transactions per number, so they may make you wait twice!!!

I avoid Hauppauge at all costs. I am all about Pt Jeff Station, and Medford is ok too

If you already changed your name on your DL, a lot of this can be done by mail -- including changing your address on everything and renewing your registration...

Give them a call and ask what can be done online / through the mail first. You may not have to show up at all.

I would recommend that you just move to Texas and re-register everything here. They are SUPER nice at the DMV, you know, southern hospitality and all.

Kara, I did check the website, downloaded forms, filled them out... There are reasons why I have to go for every one of these transactions, unfortunately. It's like once you change your address or your name, you can't do all the other things you want by phone/mail.

I think I'm going to PJ instead. Thanks ladies!!

So I completely disregarded your advice and went to Hauppauge.

Although it was crowded and didn't smell that great, it was actually fine. Believe it or not, I got everything done on my list without any trouble!

The ladies there are nice too! I started talking really fast, trying to get everything out that I needed to do, thinking they would rush me. And she told me to slow down.

I left work at 4:40, got there at 4:50, and was on my way home at 6. Not too shabby!

Thanks again. I feel much better now.
