OMG! I am in hysterics reading this. I did go to an expensive salon in NYC and a Russian lady did my one and only Brazilian. For me, the regrowth was the very worst part  Bikini waxing is enough for me now.

It isn't bad at all - I feel terrible that you went to someone who had no idea what they were doing!
Where do you get SUGAR waxing? I've never heard of it. Is it less painful than regualr waxing?
omg! I am PIMP reading Irene's comments I hate getting waxes but I love it the next day when I realize that I have a month of no hair worries.

Thanks so much for the laugh - I needed that!!! No but really, in my experience brazilian waxing always hurts - there're only different levels of pain depending on who does it, if the person knows what she is doing and I also noticed that when I get waxed when I'm expectitng to get my period it hurts much less that when I go mid- cycle. It must have something to do with hormones

it's COMPLETELY different...only grabs the HAIR not the SKIN....all the turkish women do it. Nature's Touch in Setauket is excellent and so is Daisy Spa in Centereach. I would NEVER EVER let a nail salon lady wax me...they have NO IDEA what they are doing!

And this is why i would never get waxed on long island!
I go to Shobha in NYC
they are extremely professional and wear gloves, and do not double dip the stick in teh same vat of wax. it is very sanitary.
I have the best experience when i go there.
eta: also take a couple vicodins or percocets before you go, you will feel absolutely nothing

Is this the same as the hard wax? It doesn't use strips - they just grab the wax itself and pull? I love that but I can only get it done in the winter b/c I am a sweaty beast and sweat too much while it is drying if I do it in the summer LOL

I have gone to that place for mani/pedi and I have had IRENE and I can tell you she stinks at doing manis/pedis so I could imagine you did not have a very good experience in the waxing dept. I agree with PP, definitely do not go there again for waxing.....some of these nail salons don't even do eyebrows properly.

I had it done ONCE at a spa in Garden City......NEVER EVER AGAIN ....I just remember laying down I took my jeans off ....then she said take your underwear off.... ..I thought that I could just move it out of the way for her....but when she got to the back then I knew why she wanted me to be naked... ! It was very painful..she did tell me that I was hairy....well hello dont you think i should be.....did you want me to come here like a bald eagle....I think I will stick to shaving....maybe I will give it a try after #2 gets here!

know this post was for entertainment value - and I DID laugh but just a few things.
What you described is a brazilian, if you wanted something else you had to specify. The "highlight" of the Brazilian IS the back. . .
And NEVER EVER EVER go to a nail salon EVER. The second I read about the "faux names" I knew this would not end well. Actually, I am always surprised that people get undressed in those types of places ( save them for the $6 manicures please! ).
You have to go to a spa. They will never "double dip" the stick that they apply the wax with, meaning you can't get any horrible diseases. They will speak English and be able to explain everything to you. They only use the highest quality products and not whatever can be bought in bulk.
Sorry that you had to experience all of that, I hope that if you do decide to go again - its a much better experience

Nail salons are the worst for waxing as far my experiences go. The places are not clean, the wax is too hot, they don't know what they are doing and then tell you how hairy you are.

That was pretty much the funniest thing I have read while eating breakfast.

As all the PPs mentioned - a nail salon is not the place for Brazilians! Sorry your experience was not a good one. If you do go to a good place it really isn't that bad. I've been going to Bliss Spa for a long time and I have no complaints.

I'm with Jenna on this one though!
I also went through my entire pregnancy... and actually just had my first post-c/section wax!
The place that I go to (in SD) specializes in Brazilian waxes. I would never go to a nail salon!
The never double-dip the wax sticks. They are VERY professional and never make any comments about anything down there! I am literally in and out in 7 minutes. They also told me all about the "hair cycles" and how to get the most time out of the wax.
The first time hurts the most, but it really doe get easier! I literally went until right before I gave birth... and it was not bad at all!

I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience but what IRENE said is friggin HIGHlarious!!
As many PP have said DO NOT EVER GET A BRAZILIAN from a NAIL SALON!
There are a ton of salons/day spas on LI that do them and yes, it will hurt but not like you described.
Don't give up!! In 5 weeks go to one of the places that was suggested.
