I'm just curious.. what are your car payments?
I'm looking to buy a car. I have had a small car payment for the past few years and before that, I didn't have any. I was just curious as to what the average monthly car payment was.

Mine is $365 a month...but I took out a 3 year versus 5 year loan to pay it off faster and I have so-so credit so my interest rate is kinda high.
Dh's is $366 and his interest is better but was a 5 year loan on a brand new car...he has a 2001 altima, bought in 2001
my car is a 99 and I bought in 2002, but my car also only had $9K miles on it, which made it cost a little higher, and a million trillion "extras" which I now know I DIDNT NEED

Mine was $710 a month 
Thank goodness my car got paid off early when DH and I got married.
Never again will I do something that outrageous but I was working, could afford it and wanted it.

DH pays $330 for his 1999 Honda CRV. He got it in 2001 from Carmax and it only had 12K miles on it. He traded in his Maxima and got 5K for it to put down on the CRV.

i pay nothing for mine, but it's 8 years old.
FH has a 2003 Monte Carlo SS that he purchased new with that 0,0,0 Smartbuy option thingy, so after 3 years of $430 a month, the car is totally his.
I hate car payments - Maxine, I'm with your DH. Pay in full!

$365 mo. for 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 (new) we put $7,000 down on this car.
$155 mo. for 2000 Huyndai Elantra (used) (paid this one off!)
HATE both cars! Need two new ones!

Okay, thank you ladies. I'm looking at a "02 Lexus and the payments are going to be around $340 a month- which I wanted to see if was normal. My DH also won't buy a car unless it's paid for- I really don't have that option right now, I figure I will just pay more than the minimum so I will own it in a few years. Let's just hope my crappy credit doesn't blow it for me!

Our smartbuy is in the low $300's. My finance (which is over- yay!) was in the mid $400s!
ETA: it's hard to just compare car payments to car payments because so much goes into it, totalyt selling price of the car, whether you rolled the taxes and fees in, downpayment amount is a huge factor and of course interest rate. Credit score is one factor but so is timing. Cars bought prior to all of those credit rate decreases after 9/11 will most likely have higher rates, or some people may have gotten 0% financing, etc
I think $340/mo for a finance on a lexus sounds pretty reasonabe, provided it doesn't mean you're putting down an astronomical down payment

Mine is $372 a month. I have a 2004 Suzuki XL-7. I did the Smart Buy thing but I am ashamed to say I don't even remember when it is over and how much I owe at the end I even remember how it works . It is my second Suzuki and I love them both.
Thank god DH has a company car so we don't have to pay for that!

$234/month lease on my 2003 Vibe. No money down, but I got employee pricing back then, plus had several thousand in savings on my GM card. Plus, it helps that DH is the dealer 
DH pays nothing - he gets dealer demo, so we usually take a big truck when we need it.
