I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

We can no longer bathe James in the sink tub - he got himself onto the kitchen counter in a matter of seconds last night. Chat Icon Chat Icon

We're having our bathtub reglazed this afternoon and will start to do his baths in there starting tomorrow night, I guess...

Only problem - I'm scared to put him in there! Chat Icon How much do I fill the tub? What if he tries to climb out and slips and falls and knocks himself unconscious? Of course I'll be right there with him, but still....

I'm a loon, I know - but please tell me how to bathe him in the big boy tub! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I fill ours about 8-10 inches. DS LOVES it. It's like his own little play pool. He goes nuts, but doesn't really stand or try too. I was shocked honestly, since he is a crazy climber.

That's why DD is in the inflatable tub inside the big tub. I love it and will keep her in it for a while!

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

You'll be fine - you can get those little grippy things to go on the floor of the tub so they don't slip while they are sitting. It took Luca a little bit to get used to the big tub but he loves it now! I fill it up only a few inches - the water comes up just above his butt Chat Icon And now that he's older he knows how to stand up so we can wash his junk Chat Icon and then sit right back down.

get an inflatable tub and put it in your tub! Works great! You can get them from one step ahead for $20

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

what about getting the seat?

We use that for Mason since we have a deep tub. He doesn't need it anymore, but we were using it up until a month ago and sometimes I still use it if DH is out or Mason is all over.

There's a fill line on there. GOes to his low to mid belly

If I do it without I keep the water low. About his belly button or a little higher

We have the inflatable tub, but don't have any place to store it... This is really our only bathroom - aside from a teeny tiny little one downstairs. What do you do with yours? Do you keep it inflated and just in the tub when you're not showering yourself? Chat Icon

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

I was scared to do it too but DD just got too big for the infant tub...she was sitting in it with her knees at her chest practically!
Anyway, we fill it only a few inches. We spent the first few baths sitting her back down again and again (and again...)when she tried to stand up. But now she doesnt even try. I think it really is because we literally sat her down and said, "no sit down" like 1000000 times.

oh yes, I also put a mat down that is for her little tushy only...

This happened w/ Will at James' age! He didn't get knocked unconscious, but in the time it took me to turn around and get a towel, he climbed out and hit his head on the toilet since the floor was wet...From then on he started showering w/ DH...

I'm shocked he was still in the sink tub! How did he not soak your entire kitchen?!?! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It's not too bad at all - I fill it about 8-10" too, and as long as we have toys in there, he doesn't give us a hard time about sitting still. I use the shower head (we have one on a hose) to rinse him.

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

My sister made fun of me because I still bathe the twins in the infant fold away tub. Chat Icon But, it says Infant to Toddler tub!

Definatley use the inflatable tub inside the big one. I'm going to have to make the switch too soon. (Gia discovered it's fun to splash water on the mirror - I wash them in the tub on top of the bathroom sink).

I would just keep in inside the big tub and take it out when DH and I showered.

We have our own master bathroom so I just keep it in the guest bath and never need to deflate it.

If you only have one bathroom just take it out set it to the side in the bathroom and throw it back in when you're done using the shower. This is what we did at my mom's house when we were visiting last week.

You need lots of toys! I fill it about 6 in.
He still stands up and has fallen a few times and given me a near heart attack. He stands up and tries to teeth on the faucet or he tries to climb out. I just try to make baths as quick as possible.

ETA: I put a tub mat down so he doesn't slip.. that seems to help.

this thing was atrocious for DS when we tried it. we returned it the next day. he was trying to climb out of it and we couldn't wash his parts easily.

v--just wait until (if) you have 2 in the tub Chat Icon DD (at almost 8 months) is a pro at dodging DS in the big tub now. he tries to wash her and splash her--she's learning to splash him right backChat Icon

we fill it pretty high--about 10-12 inches maybe? it goes up to DD's mid-chest. we started it lower and slowly filled it higher since DS was in there with her.do what you're comfortable with!

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

Honestly, get a rubber mat that goes in the tub (I got a pebble looking runner so it's not so ugly)

Fill the tub only 2 or 3 inches. Save the deep water for when he's a toddler.

I lay DS down in the tub on his back to wash him and after that I sit him up and let him play. He doesn't move around while laying down (as opposed to everywhere else he is all over!) and when he's sitting up, he's in such shallow water, I feel comfortable letting him play w/o needing too much supervision. I just sit there and watch him play, pour water on him, etc....

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

DS is still in the sink tub only bc I can't bend over our big tub bc of the tracks for the glass doors (being 8 months preggo won't work). He does soak the entire kitchen during baths but when we were away, I used my parents big tub & he loved it.

I will be getting an inflatable tub to go inside the big tub bc DS loves to climb out of everything including the pool

i used the snug tub (inflatable) it goes right into the big tub- great transition for no more sink, but not sturdy enough for the big tub.

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

We used a rubber mat for the tub and that prevented any slipping - in fact, after the baby tub I moved him right to the regular big people tub with a mat from BBB or BRU Chat Icon

Re: I'm petrified of the "big tub"!

We don't fill ours that much. Just covering his legs when sitting. I got an octopus thing at Target that says the temp is idea. I also got an Elmo rubber mat that I put on the bottom of the tub that helps him not to slide. Also, he has lots of toys to play with. Liam loves the tub!

I scrub it out (or really MIL does) beforehand. it's old school and deep.

he does stand but he can't get anyplace.

other than that, in the tub we are still using the big white Euro tub we got at BBB

I had to take Tommy out of the sink for baths at 5 months because he was too squirmy! I use a bath seat now. I can't put him right into the big tub because he stands up etc...
