Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
I was induced and it was not that bad. I started the cervadil the night before and pitocin in the morning. After 12 hours, they turned it off, I slept that night and they started it up again the next morning at which point they broke my water. At that point, I got an epi and delivered DD at 7:15 PM.
It was long, but not bad.
Good luck tomorrow!

thank you... they will not let me go too long due to my blood pressure... i was told that if things arent progressing quickly they will throw the towel in and do a csection. but that i have a good chance of the induction taking quickly since ive been having pre term contractions as it is!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
With my DD, I didn't need cervidil, so I can't help you there. They hooked me up to pitocin at 8 pm, and I was 2 cm dilated. It did take about 4 hours for me to get to 3-4 cm, but the contractions weren't horrible. I think I got my epidural around 3 am. By 4 am I was fully dilated and pushing.... Had a little trouble pushing sionce the epi was just put in, but my DD was born at 5:56 that morning. I have heard some people say that contractions are worse with an induction, but since I had nothing to compare it to, it wasn't horrible. And just think of what you will get in the end!!!!!

Yes, pain meds. They curve the cramping and will let you sleep. She didn't take them until 4:00 am. She wished she would've done what she was told to do.

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
i was induced exactly a year ago today! they started the cervidil at about 9am. i got an epidural once i was dilated enough--what a relief! once i was fully dilated (about 11pm) i started pushing. i had an abnormally long labor NOT due to the induction but because DS's cord was too short and he couldn't descend the birth canal. DS was born vaginally at 4:22am on July 3 and overall it was a wonderful experience! i was up and showering and walking around within hours and was back to normal very quickly. i had pitocin for about 30 minutes but they shut it off because they realized i didn't need it.
with this pregnancy i will absolutely get induced again if i need to!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
I was induced but they started me on pitocin right away! I was freaked out about it too but I had a really good experience, they started me on pitocin at 3PM and I was 1-2cm i got the epi at about 5PM and by 8PM i was ready to push, and DS was born at 8:27PM, i expected much worse and was pleasantly surprised, and I would never be scared to have a baby again! YOU'LL BE FINE!!!!!! just try to relax and not stress it too much, I know easier said than done but a lot of women have been through it, you aren't the first or the last and you'll do GREAT!!!

Everything will be OK!!!!!! I've never been through it, this is my first, but my sister was induced and after she gave birth, she said to me "Shari, you can do this, its not that bad!" I kid you not. Good luck tomorrow!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
sweety - it's not as bad as you think - i was petrified too....
they started my 'cervidil' (i didn't get that - i got cytotec) and i felt nothing....
put it in again 2 hours later and again 2 hours later (no pain at all - nothing) - at 5:30 AM my water broke. To be frank - that was the worst part to that point - it just felt ewwwwwy.
The pitocin was not fun - but not the worst experience of my life. I will tell you though - the contractions, or the BH that you have felt - you'll giggle at how you thought they were the 'real deal'...because they're SO not... Eventually - the pain got really bad and i asked for pain killers - which actually slowed my progression....and once i got to 3 CM - they offered me the epi and i said YES...be smart and say YES. Because they did that - they were able to turn up the pitocin all the way (i was at MAX for about 4 hours and had NO idea)... Did it hurt? Yes - was it horrid? NO....
I never got past 3 CM - and they went for a c-section and when they opened me up they foudn Emma with her head crooked on an angle...so i never ever would've progressed... (i just realized i didn't do a birth story - whoopsy!)...
DO NOT WORRY - realize that you are in good hands and that your doctors want nothing more than what is best for you and the baby!!!!!!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
My best advice is to go in there with an open mind and ask questions whenever you have them. No need to go in there with extreme anxiety over someone else's delivery experience, yours will be different as all pregnancies are. Hope you have a safe and easy delivery!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
I dont want to freak you out, but it has been said that an induction is only succesful when the baby is *ready* to come out. What that means,.... who knows? However, I went in for an induction, and wound up with a c section after 21 hrs of labor. It is all relative to your body, baby, etc... Good luck, whatever turns out, your DC willl get here perfect, no matter what method (happens)!

Re: im scared.. talk to me about an induction
I didn't have cervadil and I had too many contractions (didn't feel them though) in a hour for the cytotec. I was given pitocin and they upped the dose every hour. It was fine at the beginning. Once the doctor broke my water, the contractions became stronger. I asked for an epidural 4 hours after the doctor broke my water.
I won't lie. Pitocin is pretty rough. Every time I seemed to get a little relief from the epidural, the nurse would increase the dose of pitocin and I'd be in quite a bit of pain again. I never progressed past 4-5 cm and ended up with a c-section.
The unknown is always scary, but you'll be fine. It's all worth it to meet your baby. Best of luck!

Stadol made me extremely dizzy and I had hallucinations. I hated it. They had already put an hours' worth in my IV, but I started saying crazy things and wanted it out immediately.
