Im so sorry your DS is having these problems.
My DD is now seeing a gastro doc. for the same reason. I originally took her there because at the young age of 15 months I thought she had hemorroids (it turned out to be skin tags) and now she is on glycolax. Seeing them in so much pain is horrible. My DD cries so hard when she has to poop it breaks my heart and her poops are so big that thats what caused the fissures and then cause the skin tags (sorry for the TMI)
Anyway, I wish you luck at the dr. today. Please update us all after the doc.

Sorry to barge in here, but when you give him laxatives, does he go?
I know two people who have had Hirschsprung's Disease - it's where there are no or damaged nerve endings near the bowel, which makes it impossible to excrete. There's more info here: Hirschsprung's Disease
My SIL's nephew had it and they did a quick telescopic procedure to clip out the damaged part of the bowel and reattach the intestine. he's completely fine now.
My aunt's husband had it as a baby and unfortunatley 30 years ago they didn't really know how to handle it (he has scars all over his stomach because of the numerous operations he had to have)
