I'm so worried about Max-update in original post-also posted some pics on pg 2

he's eating better but wobbling and falling down. Cats are not supposed to wobble and fall down.

I'm thinking of calling the vet again...I don't know what else we can do until his thyroid levels are better.

he looks so sad when he falls down.

update: max did well over the weekend and they gave him IV fluids. They also started him on a course of Prednisone and a neurological medication for his coordination. Doc definitely thinks it's neurological since his labs came out perfect. He will stay overnight again and tomorrow we'll see if he can come home. I miss him terribly. Can't stop thinking about him. I know he'll be ok with the vet and they staff their are wonderful. We still don't know if he had a stroke or not, but either way the treatment is the same..not much you can do.

thanks for the prayers and thoughts. please keep Max in your thoughts.Chat Icon

another update:

this morning I spoke to the covering Vet. He still hasn't responded to his meds and actually threw them up this morning. He's still on IV fluids but is not eating really.

the vet wants us to take him hom tomorrow to see what happens. This doesn't look promising at all.

Maybe you should call the vet and touch base with them. If it gives you peace of mind, it's worth it.

Re: I'm so worried about Max

doctor thinks max might have thrown an embolism or stroke. Wants to try prednisone..

We are taking him back to the vet on Saturday for another exam before we do that.

I can see that max might have had a stroke..weakness, not himself, hides all the time, loss of appetite can't chew...he does a lot of licking of his food.

He wobbles and then falls down...not always but any of that is not normal.

I'm afraid this is the beginning of the end for my Maxi boy..he's always been fearless...but now he can't do anything to help himself.

Re: I'm so worried about Max-udpate at the bottom

took him back to the vet. He lost almost a whole pound in a week. His muscle tone is gone and it seems there is something really wrong. Doc seems to think it may be automimmune..something is destroying the muscle.

He is staying at the vets and getting IV fluids and they are taking more blood tests. I will know more on MOnday.

Re: I'm so worried about Max-update at the bottom

He's going to be 12 in March. That's not that old but he does have hyperthyroidism and a heart murmur so that has to be taken into account.

Neither one of those things are what's wrong now.

Doc will let us know Monday. It's so hard to watch him stumble and fall. Two weeks ago he was a happy kitty that used to jump on everything..when I hold him he doesn't even sqiurm.

I miss him and so does his brother.
