im speechless.........
yesterday an old friend from collage wrote me an email. She asks me where i am working now, i write back "im a stay at home mom", so she writes back, "so, you basically do nothing all day".  i am so ****** and upset right now you have no clue. i wrote back "you have no idea what i do all day, its FAR from nothing", then i ended the conversation. have you ever got a reaction like that from ANYONE when you tell them you are a sahm?? im furious.

 I am not a SAHM, but I can tell you it is much harder being at home all day than it is going to work. You are alwasy "on" when you are a SAHM, it is the hardest job EVER!! She obviously has no clue, you;re doing a GREAT job

Very shortly I am going to be a SAHM mom. I can tell you that I am terrified. I personally think it is so much harder being home all day with your children than at work. You have to be at your best 24/7 and that is tough.
Don't listen to her!!

I too work and it's ALOT easier to come to work than be a SAHM.
Don't let her upset you. You should be proud of yourself and give yourself credit that you're busting you butt at home!!!! ignore her!!

Tell her to bite you. People just don't think before they speak. I'm assuming that she doesn't have any children of her own yet. I bet if you bring up that comment when she does have kids she will apologize profusely!

You know what bothers me most about that statement? Not whether she feels that way about SAHMs or not but that she would actually say that to you!! So what if she thinks you do nothing all day since you know otherwise, and you enjoy it, choose it, are financially fortunate enough to be able to do it, etc. etc. But that fact that a friend would actually say something in such a way...Wow! That's the shocking part to me. Whatever her issue is with it, the most appalling part is that she would talk to you like that. Talk about a lack of self awareness, to say the very least.
Im sorry you were so hurt.

I would be annoyed but wouldn't hold it against her. I would wait until she has her first baby & say "Yeah, I remember when you said I don't do anything all day. You didn't have a clue." and laugh....

My dad used to say "What did you do all day?" to my mom. With newborn twins & a 4 your old, she would answer "I sat on the couch all day & ate bon-bons."

OMG, that's AWFUL! People have no clue... I'm so sorry. If it's any consolation, I get a lot of sh!t about being a working mom. Just the other day I was waiting on line to get my lunch standing next to one of the senior partners at my firm. He was asking about my baby and what she does all day and I told him she's in daycare. He proceeded to tell me about his daughter who just had a baby and how he would be furious if she put the baby in daycare and that a baby should always be raised by the mom...
Um, thanks for telling me that right after I told you my baby is in daycare...
People just stink all around

I'm a mommy to be lurking here- my son will be in daycare three days a week- so many people have said to me already how bad that is- that a newborn will "suffer" in daycare- ugh- people really do stink....

You know what I never understood about people who say SAHM's "do nothing" all day? If they do so little, then how come daycare centers and nannies charge so much for that day full of "nothing"? ;)
By the way, I'm a SAHM so I know how hard each day actually is. But I give LOTS of credit to the working moms-- I know it's tough to maintain the work/family balance, and I don't know how you superwomen do it!!!

I am a stay at home mom during the week, I work weekends at a banquet place. Anyway, I get that alot, must be nice to sit around, how was your shows today, BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! Somedays I don't even get a shower until dinner time, somedays I am so frazzled I don't know what to do with myself. I just smile and let them alone with their thoughts. Dh even had the nerve once to tell me I was getting lazy, ohhh some people
