I'm starting to get really worried.
As I have posted before, I'm a music teacher in a school, but to supplement my income, I have a private music studio where I teach flute and music theory lessons. Well, given the current state of the economy, so many families cannot afford the extra expense of lessons anymore. As much as it s*cks money-wise to lose these students, it is heartbreaking, as well. I LOVE every, single minute that I am working with my private students, and many of them have been with me for 6 years, however, to lower the price of lessons or not charge them anythign would just break the bank for me. I still need to pay rent for my studio, and even if I decided to not rent a studio, and travel to people's houses, my students are so spread out, that I end up spending just as much on gas, as I do on rent. I'm just really upset because it seems like people do not find music to be an important part of their children's lives anymore, and they are less willing to pay for private lessons when they are getting music in school. However, my friend whomI share my studio with, is OVERLOADED with students because she teaches piano, and the parents justify it by saying they don't get it in school. I'm just really sad. The extra money helps us out, but I just love teaching privately so much, and I am afraid my business is going down the tubes

That stinks. Hopefully things with the economy will take a turn for the better at some point. Could you offer small group lessons at a cheaper rate so that you don't lose them all? Or would that still not be enough.

I am thinking of advertising that if you sign up for lessons and bring a friend to sign up, too, I will give a discounted rate. Also, I am going to tell my students that I have now that if they can bring in a student to sign up for the school year, I will give them a month free. This way I don't lose money, but it will just take an extra month to see the gain.
