I'm SURE you're all sick of me asking for ideas/thoughts on DH's surprise party but.....
I am debating on having it at home or having it at a restaurant/hall.
IF it's at home, he is more likely to find out-as I'll be a MAD woman cleaning and such. I'd have the food catered (yeah, if I cooked, he'd KNOW something was up! ) as well, I'd need to rent a tent and table. I know (from previous parties) the tent would get delivered and set up 1-3 days before party-yeah, that's a dead give-away.
BUT, DH is a very laid-back jeans and tee shirt kinda guy. So a restaurant or anything semi-fancy I'm afraid he will feel uncomfortable.
Pricing may end up being very close considering rental items and catered food
SO, that said-- Please help me decide---
(A) Have it at home, and convince DH we should have a BBQ that day but do everything behind his back to make it the surprise party.
OR
(B) Have it at a restaurant, something more casual so he's not too uncomfortable--If so--I NEED IDEAS!!! In Nassau would be perfect, or WESTERN Suffolk
TIA!!

my co-worker just hosted a party at her house for 35 ppl. she had it catered and hired some help (servers/bartender) and then her cleaning lady came the next day.
so that's an idea. you should price it out

I vote for home--much more casual and laid back, which sounds like his style. Good luck! It sounds like fun!

What about a bar instead of restaurant? I just did a 30th bday for DH and I rented out a bar for a happy hour type thing - 7:00-10:30pm, open bar (I paid a per person price). After 10:30, everyone stayed but they had to pay! LOL, and the bar was then open to the public. The bar was happy to get the guaranteed extra business before their very busy time, and it was still pretty laid back and relaxed. We hired a live band and had appetizers and cake.

I was thinking of doing that as it's a perfect idea (most of his friends drink--LOTS), but then I run into two dilemmas:
(1) I don't think his parents would go for that and I don't want to NOT invite them
AND
(2) I run into the problem of who will watch our son.

I voted other because I like the bar idea. I'm leaning towards that for DH's 40th
That said, If my DH wasn't OCD about the house I'd have it at home. Hiring a bartender & at least 1 other to help set up/break down as well as a cleaning team.
