important message for parents!!!
my friend DH is a fireman/first aid in NJ, and she just e-mailed this out about a first aid call he just went on... scary stuff!!!
"MH just got home from a really horrible 1st aide call. He's usually not shaken up at all, but I think this one really affected him. Apparently the parents went upstairs to check on their 5 year old who was sleeping and she wasn't there.
They had left her windows open to get her some fresh air. She apparently pushed through the screen and fell 2 stories head-on to contrete slabs. They don't know how long before she had fallen/been there bleeding because it had been over a 1/2 hour since they had checked on her.
As of the latest medical update (she was medivacced), she has a severely fractured skull, a broken pelvis, many many broken bones, and was bleeding internally. They are pretty sure she has brain damage too.
So my PSA is that screens are not child-proof and can be easily pushed out by even the smallest child. And also, furniture should not be placed under any windows in any circumstances. "

Great PSA this time of year. We had the windows open today to circulate fresh air, but tonight they are closed and locked in their rooms and the CAC is on.

Oh my. I am glad we have very high windows. Also, PSA, do not keep crib or bed near windows, high or low. So terrible.

How awful! You would think it does not happen with a child who is 5.
Honestly, that's why DS will stay in a much smaller bedroom downstairs while we have 2 bedrooms upstairs.
