Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

Are we being unrealistic?

DH said that he thinks its all we'll be able to afford.

I just want a crib, changing table, and 1 small set of drawers. I know its sily, but it means so much to me...

I'm sure we can register for a basinet....

Is this possible?

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

I think I answered my own question - just looked at the IKEA website, and I think it really may be doable!!!

Anyone else make it under 500 bucks for furniture and still have a nice looking space for the baby?

It's doable....especially if you decide not to care so much if it all matches PERFECTLY. I got all the necessary things for my first for under $300! [furniture wise]

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

It's most definitely doable. We got ours on Ebay of all places. Great quality and even despite outrageous shipping prices, we still paid under $500.

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

It is doable. It depends on what you are looking for. I have seen cribs for $100 - $150 at BBB. Not as large of a selection, but they definitely exist. I noticed some very nice pieces of nursery furniture in IKEA. Also, check out JC Penney, Target and I think someone mentioned Walmart. They all have nice pieces that are very reasonable.

I was in Home Goods yesterday (the one in Port Washington) and they had 2 beautiful and STURDY sets for @ that amount, one in white, one in a light brown.
Hurry up and go see, things sell in that store in a jiffy!

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

Totally doable. Especially if you look on craigs list for the dresser and changing table.

To save money don't get a changing table - just buy a dresser and get a changing pad for the top :)

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

We got our stuff from BRU for a small fortune. I was in Target the other day and some of their furniture seemed better built than the BRU stuff. Give that a try!

Totally! I only bought a crib and a changing top that went on top of the crib! You do not need bedding at all, as a matter of fact, I would advise that you save your money on bedding and just buy a halo sleepsack or two! Spend the money on something else that is expensive, like a really great pram!

I think it's doable. I just saw some great convertible cribs on JCPenney on sale for $230 or so.

Maybe I have Preggo brain..but.. whats a "pram"?

BTW: After numerous trips to BRU and BBB, I kick myself in the arse for not buying stock yrs ago. The baby industry is becoming bigger than the bridal hoopla we all got suckered into in the past.

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

Definetely doable. BRU and BBB always has sales on furniture that is being discontinued. They have big sections.

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

We will spend just a little more than that but there are alternatives to spend less.

Here's our breakdown:
Crib - $120 (Delta Jenny Lind Style) BRU
Mattress - $130 BRU
Dresser - $150 IKEA
Rocking Chair - $150 Target.com

We could've saved money by getting a less expensive mattress, changing table for $100 at BRU instead of a dresser and getting a glider from Craigs List for $100-$120.

Try Craigslist, Homegoods and watch for coupons for BBB, Target and BRU.

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

I did!

I got my crib for less than $350 (it was a floor model)

I got a changing table for about $130 (I think it was less)

And we had a armoire from our bedroom set that we are not using

Re: Impossible to get all baby furniture on $500 budget?

Let's see for $500, we did-

the crib (consignment store)
The glider(consignment store)
Bedding set- www.babycenter.com
Bassinet
Paint
Dresser(had an old one that matched the crib perfectly, sanding and refinshing it, putting a changing pad on top)
Changing pad
twin bed and daybed bedding

It definately can be done and done nicely- I had a pic of my nursery on here last week if you want to check it out.
