Impromptu (but non-alarming) trip to the doc today...(long)
It seems that throughout this pregnancy thus far, I have been cramping off and on. Not knowing what I am supposed to feel because everyone is different, I didnt think much of it - chalking it up to my uterus growing, blah blah blah. The day of the amnio I went in feeling fine as I did the day after the amnio. Friday, I felt a lil crampy again and then again on Saturday. So Saturday night I called the emergency line (though I kinda knew it wasnt an emergency) and waited for a call back. I never got one and fell asleep. Sunday, I felt nothing and was status quo.
Ths morning I woke up again to mild cramping and just to play it safe, I made an appointment with the doc for the afternoon for what felt like dull period cramps. When I got there, they told me that someone was read the riot act somewhere for me not getting a return call - neither of my docs were on call on Saturday night - it had been an associate from another practice. ANYWAY, I had a full internal and external and everything is 100% perfect and fine.
I told the doc I noticed that after I have a bowel movement (TMI-too bad), I feel a bit of relief. Not having taken a class in bio or anatomy in 20 years, I asked if this could have contributed to uterine cramping given that my intestines, after surgery, are much shorter and wired differently than the general public. He told me that the bladder gives pressure from the front and the intestinal system (for a clean term here) gives you pressure from the back which could certainly cause cramping and pressure in the uterus. He measured my cervix to make sure I had not been contracting and it was, as he said "nice and long as it should be." The heart was beating on lil Les-ward or Ed-lie and I was on my way.
I felt tremendous comfort in knowing that my feelings were not minimized and I was treated very seriously. They were PIZZED at the service (or the doc) who did not return my call. Best of all they confirmed that I was by far NOT the wackiest craziest patient they have ever seen.
Sorry so long.

Thanks. I thought it would be in heart too. I never wanted to be THAT PATIENT who ran to the doc with every ache and pain, but they werent taken back by it at all.

Glad it turned out okay. It was a long time ago that you told me that you are wired funny, so this does not surprise me!

So much so that my maid of honor mentioned that in her speech at our wedding...

I'm glad you had it checked out. You need to be in charge. Nobody else understands what you are feeling. Always go with your gut.
