in-laws don't know yet and they are bringing wine!

This may sound silly but....
We aren't telling anyone for another 2 weeks when I will be 12 preggo.
My ILs are coming over tomorrow for our anniversary and they told DH they are bringing white wine because they know I prefer white over red.
And since they are bringing the food from La Parma, they said "we will bring lots of shrimp since your wife loves it!"
Okay, so now what do I do? What excuse do I give my Sicilian in-laws for not having white wine and shrimp?
Sounds silly I know, but you don't know my in-laws Chat Icon

Tell them you aren't feeling well so you are sticking with bland foods & ginger ale.

Fake-siip the wine and bring it around the house with you while you are entertaining. Pretend you are re-filling it. Have DH drink it when they are not looking if you need.

As for the Shrimp, my OB is pretty strict and is not opposed to eating shrimp in moderation, so I'd call the OB if they are in today. If not then maybe act like you have a stomach virus (but don't be surprised if they put 1 and 1 together)Chat Icon

The shrimp is fine as long as they are cooked. Make DH eat a lot of them.. As for the wine, say your not feeling well.

Re: in-laws don't know yet and they are bringing wine!

Thank for all the suggestions.
As far as the shrimp, I'm sure I will have one or two, but they know I would normally eat ALL of it!
The wine might be a little trickier! But I like the idea of telling them I drank too much the night before!
Thanks ladies!

I saw my cousin when she was pregnant before 12 weeks - and she didn't want anyone to know. For some reason that night I kept pushing alcohol on her - and making her drinks all night long. I found out about two weeks later that I would make her the drinks and she would dump them out in the kitchen sink and refill her glass with something else. I had no idea at all. She thought I knew and was trying to out her by giving her all the drinks Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

From what I was told, it is OK in moderation and as long as it is cooked properly.

There are certain meds that you are not supposed to drink alcohol with. Tell them you are on meds.

I am going to go against the grain and say that you can sip on some wine during the evening. Don't drink the whole bottle, but if you nurse one glass throughout the whole night I think it would be fine.

And I think shrimp are A-OK duing pregnancy. I ate them often. I think it's just high-mercury fish that you have to be concerned about.

Hey, maybe they already have an idea that you are pregnant and they are doing this as a test! Chat Icon

let them pour the wine, and just find a reason to step out of the room and switch it with with white grape juice.. The shrimp well that you can just put in mouth and then bring the napkin to mouth and spit out.. i know its wasting the shrimp but this will keep it a secret.

Would you consider telling them early? That way you don't have to worry about keeping your stories straight and can enjoy yourself!
