in need of ideas - 1st bday party (mostly adults)
we are having DS first birthday party at a restuarant in garden city - a brunch from 11-3pm...
how do I fill this time? of course there will be food and socializing but people will be bored
there are really no children so I don't want to waste money hiring entertainment (3 children including DS)...
any ideas? I do plan to do a few things... a "photo album year in review" that people can browse through, a frame with pictures from when I was one, when DH was one and now DS' first birthday picture...
what else? any cute games? im so stuck with NOTHING

Re: in need or ideas - 1st bday party (mostly adults)
How about some background music?
I don't think you need entertainment really.. people will be up and chatting and just mingling.. plus they will be eating and you'll be cutting a cake as well..
don't stress!

Re: in need of ideas - 1st bday party (mostly adults)
For mostly adults I wouldn't do anything. Maybe just have music playing in the background. If you want to open gifts there towards the end you can, but not necessary. I've been to a few b-day parties that are mostly adults for some friends b4 the rest of us had kids. We all socialized and ate. Of course there was alcohol there so that makes the time go faster. Not that you have to serve that, but it's always been at the parties I've been too and my friends and I sit and chat together. catch up, etc

I agree background music and thats it. Singing Happy Birthday and him eating his cake, will easily take up 30 minutes if not more. Also are you opening gifts there or at home? Because if you are doing it there then thats gonna fill up some time too.

Re: in need of ideas - 1st bday party (mostly adults)
For one of my DD's Christening, which was mostly adults, I hired a caricaturist which was fun for all ages, including adults. I had to add an extra 1/2 hour because so many adults wanted to have one.

I don't think you need to worry about entertaining the adults...they will be lined up to hold Jack so that will keep them busy.
Between eating, chatting, checking out the album, drinking and eating some more everyone will be fine
