Incompetent Cervix
Do you know anyone who has one & had children?
What does it entail besides possible bedrest?

Re: Incompetent Cervix
When I was pregnant with my boys they were constantly chekcing me ofr an incompetant cervix. They said if it was they would do a cerclage and bed rest to keep it closed.
I can't stand the term incompetant cervix though.

Re: Incompetent Cervix
I know someone who had this and had to be stitched for both of her pregnancies. She was on bedrest the majority of her pregnancy for the first, but for the second she was stitched and seemed to be able to take care of her toddler at the time. I don't know too much about it other than what I just mentioned.

Re: Incompetent Cervix
My neighbor lost her first baby at 5 months due to this and had to have 2 cerclages with her second pregnancy plus bedrest, the baby still came 2 months early.

Re: Incompetent Cervix
I had a shortened cervix, I'm not sure if that's the same thing. I was put on bed rest for 12 weeks b/c it was too late to get the cerclage. My DDs were born at 36 weeks.

Re: Incompetent Cervix
I have a shortened cervix, it technically cannot be considered incompetent unless it has opened during pregnancy.
I had a cerclage at 14 weeks, bedrest for 3 weeks after, went from 17 weeks - 26 and was put back on bedrest until 32 weeks........
The Doctor's monitor me every 2 weeks.... they say many women go full term and have to be induced with a stitch.... and many deliver early.......

Re: Incompetent Cervix
I had an incompetent cervix (shortened with funneling) and was put on bedrest at 19 weeks pregnant. My daughter was born healthy and had to be induced at 39 weeks. I was on bedrest for 20 weeks but worth every ache and pain because in the end I got my baby girl :) and she was full term and healthy.
My High risk OB advised me not to get a cerclage (sp?). Everyone and every case is different I would recommend seeing a HIGH Risk OB that has experience with your condition and get a 2nd opinion before doing anything.

Re: Incompetent Cervix
I had one, they didn't realize until I went to my 20 weeks sono, at that point I had to go for a cerclage and I was placed on bed rest for 17 weeks, during the 17 weeks I had to go to the high-risk about 2 times a week.. They took the stitch out at 36 weeks and I delivered a couple of days later to a very healthy baby... I was in pre-term labor throughout the 20 weeks, so every other week I was in the hospital to get tested for Fetal Fibronectin, which was to determine if I was going to go into labor w/thin 2 weeks.. And I had to take terbutaline and get shots of progesterone to calm the contractions... FM me if you have any other questions..

sometimes they put a stitch at the end of the cervix. My co-workers wife has successfully had 3 PGs with this procedure. All went to 39 weeks, then c-section deliveries (scheduled). All of her children were born in great health. She was on bedrest for all PGs.
