Good news and bad news! Anyone have experience with incompetent cervix?
Good news is that I found out the sex and it is a GIRL!!!!!!
I am soooo sooo soooo excited. I really wanted a girl this whole time.
Bad news is that the Dr. just called me and they need me to come back in a week. The whole reason I went today was to have my cervix length checked b/c I had a cone biopsy a few years ago. Well, apparently I am right on the cusp of a potential problem, so they need to measure me again next week.
Anyone have experience with an incompetent cervix? I need hugs

I've only heard that when that happens you either need bedrest or/and a cerclage put in. (sew cervix shut basically). It's easily treated, they just have to watch it. Good luck!

Thanks. No, they willingly told me! They did the transvaginal and the abdominal u/s. Thank god I didn't listen to my Dr. who told me I wouldn't be able to see the baby. I took DH with me on a hunch that we would be able to find out...so glad I did!

Woo-hoo!!! Congrats to you, that is sooo exciting (I am very happy for you, but so jealous you found out already, I've got 3 more weeks to wait ). And I'm sure everything will work out with your condition, it's great that you're being watched so closely.

Re: Good news and bad news! Anyone have experience with incompetent cervix?
Congrats on having a healthy baby girl!!!
I need the cerclage, as I had a leep done on my cervix a few years ago. In other words, in a couple of weeks when I'm 20 weeks, my cervix could open up and the baby could try to be born pre-maturely. The cerclage is just stiching me up so it won't open and I can hold the pregnancy for as long as I need. to. They'll just monitor you and continue to watch your cervix. Nothing to get to worried about. Has your Dr. offered the cerclage to you? Or, what else have they offered as a treatment?

Yep thats about the size of it. A very good friend of mine had 2 successful pregnancies with an incompentent cervix. She was put on bedrest early in her pg..I'd say 18 weeks or so, and had the cerclage. Both of her DC were delivered on time & in perfect health!
(oh & congrats on finding out about your little )

My doctor told me the same thing about the cerclage; I also had a leep procedure years ago. She told me not to worry -- she's just going to monitor me. She also told me that the cerclage itself is "no big deal."

Congrats!!!
I've heard with an incompentent cervix you have to go on bedrest, but it isn't painful at all and they can do the cerclage.
Good luck! I am sure it will all be fine

Re: Good news and bad news! Anyone have experience with incompetent cervix?
No but I have heard of it, and I think it is fairly common. I believe the Dr. would put a stitch or two in your cervix to hold it until labor....
ETA -- Congrats!!

Congrats on your Alicia!!!!!
At least you didn't have to turn on the water works for the u/s!!!
I don't know much about the incompetent cervix thing, but I've heard others discuss it and it doesn't seem to be much of a problem at all.
