Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
Ryan has been in underpants since August. Pee trained after a couple of weeks and poop trained since mid-September. But lately he is having accidents here and there and telling us less and less that he has to go - I feel like we have to be on top of him more than ever. I'm not sure how to approach it. Go back to rewards? We have offered stickers for poop, and he doesn't really have an accident with that - but I have to convince him to go (he used to just tell me, ask for privacy and do his business). Now a couple of days go by and I have to bribe him to push something out I just don't know what's going on and how to go back to where we were.
Thoughts??

Re: Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
Bump. Spoke to his teacher about it this morning and she is thoroughly confused too. They are going to reward him at school and we will at home - but can't figure out why he is regressing aside from perhaps Colin who is no longer a "baby". Maybe him walking and really being more active and becoming a big boy is affecting Ryan???

Re: Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
Happened to us
Noah was 100% pee trained, for like 2 months I think? Then boom, total regression..now he goes in potty maybe 40% of the time. NEVER poop.
We are gonna attack it again over Christmas break.
Good luck..wish I had advice!

Re: Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
Does it seem like he's intentionally trying to hold it in and then losing control or is he just not paying attention and going in his pants?
I have no experience with regression since we havent even gotten that far but I've learned that at this age withholding is extremely common. Often it's a control thing or they have a BM that hurts and then are afraid to go. If he's withholding it would likely look like he's straining to go like constipation and you'd see more frequent small BMs or "streaking".

This is what I thought - he has "hard" poop perhaps and is afraid to go as it may hurt. He is a great eater but not a huge veggie fan.
I think sometimes he has a pee accident b/c he's holding poop and pee comes out.
What types of food can I get him to eat to soften up his stool?

Re: Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
When DS was little he was constipated - Doc said that even though he was having code browns, if they were pellet like, its still constipation. We had to give him benefiber - like 1 tablespoon mixed w/ his bottle 1x per day.
They make stool softeners for adults - not sure for children - "it doesn't make you go, just makes it easier to go"
Might be worth a call to the doc.

Re: Increase in accidents/regression in potty training??
I was planning to start official potty boot camp over Christmas break...when my DS is having hard BMS I give him prunes with apple baby food...works like a charm.
