ok- that is seriously the saddest thing I ever heard- I don't want to knock anyones culture- but what kind of people throw their mothers, sisters, aunts out onto the street when their husband dies
that is awful, culture or not- something should be done!

The first thing that I thought of was that it isn't much different than countries/cultures that do away with their daughters at birth placing very low value on women. Women are more than wombs and servants to men. They are human beings.

You should try to buy or rent Deepa Mehta's film WATER. It's about the widows and is a really beautiful and heartbreaking piece of art.
