Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
My cat is currently an indoor only cat...we recently moved to a house and he is dying to go outside. I am scared to let him out - but i feel so bad some times...has anyone ever let their indoor only cat - outside? How do u do this? Do you just let then out? I am scared he will run away and not come back

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
I urge you for the safety of your cat as well as the birds and your neighbors sandboxes, do not let your cat out unless it’s into an enclosed outdoor play area. Your cat can get a number of parasites or worms from consuming something laying around. Your cat can get in a fight with another animal and be injured. Your cat could be hit by a car. Just as you don't open your door and let your dog run around your neighborhood, you should not do so with your cat. If you want to let your cat out, just as you would with a fenced in yard for your dog, you should have a fenced in area for your cat. My cats go outside in an enclosure. They have a cat door so they can go out safely.
I know most people don’t feel the way I do, but if I can stop one person from randomly opening their door for their cat to run around the neighborhood I will be happy. You don’t let your dogs run around, you fence in your property, the same should be done for your cat!
Here’s their pen. It’s huge, I won’t bore you with all the pics, they’re in my album. It's 3 sections, this is one part:
Good luck!

I dont think you should let him out. That opens up the door (literally!) for so many problems.
Fleas, killing birds, and worse - getting hit by a car.
Trust me - the cat will survive living life looking out of the window!

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
I would never let my guys out- except if I am holding them
I have been at the vet too many times when there is an outdoor cat that got hurt
plus they would bring in all kinds of stuff and they love to lay on my clothes and my bed-

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
I wouldn't suggest it. If he is older, he probably can't fend for himself out there. He could get hurt.
My cat used to try to escape under your legs when you were coming thru the front door. He managed to get out 3-4 times. He was probably 3 years old at the time. He would be gone for 3-7 days. The last two times, I didn't think he was coming back. When he came back, he was starving and STUNK like you wouldn't believe. Had to throw him in the tub as soon as he came in. He ended up with ear mites and fleas. Which he so graciously passed onto our furniture and other cat.
I have a younger cat now, who has attempted many failed escapes. It's not worth it to me because of what they bring back into the house.

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
Domestic cats do not belong outside. They can get hit by a car, bit by wild animals or taken to be used as bait in dog fights.
You need to make the environment fun for him. Here is a great website that provides helpful hints.cats

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
thanks for your responses...i would never let him out alone. I think in the summer time I might let him sit out there with me while i am gardening (of course I will make sure he gets flea protection) so he can lay in the sun and get some fresh air.
Thanks for your advice!

If you are going to do this you should put him on a leash - otherwise if he sees something he is going to run, and you won't be able to catch him.

Re: Indoor/Outdoor Cat Questions
Def don't let em out no matter how much he or she is pist
If you do - understand you will than have to take the kitty back to the vet for more shots due to exposure that indoor cats are not exposed to.
I let my kitty up on a balcony that is enclosed much like the pic above in the second post. That will be coming to a sure end due to our move soon.
