indoor railing suggestions

we have a staircase going down in our living room. the one that is there now is VERY unsafe for my dd. it needs to be replaced as a #1 priority. but we dont even have a clue what "goes" and where to look. i was thinking something wood that will match the hardwood floors (we think they are under the carpet i not we will be putting them in) any suggestions?

(the railing is to the left of the picture)

Re: indoor railing suggestions

What about making it a half wall? That way there's no slats? You can even put built-ins in it for add'l storage? Kid friendly stuff of course.

Yeah - I know what you mean......

Everyone who's used him swears by him (myself and now my brother included):

Bill Elliot

Superb. We priced out like 5 different places, he beat the lowest priced place by like $700.

We had him install and another company stain them - the other company said 'Wow, whoever installed this did a great job, there's no glue residue anywhere.' They were very impressed with his work.
