Induction Anxiety

At my 37 week appointment yesterday my doctor said she wants to induce me at 39 weeks if nothing happens earlier (because of my gestational diabetes). I have heard all the nightmare stories but does anyone have any positive induction experiences to put my mind at ease?? Chat Icon

Induction Anxiety

I was successfully induced at 40w2d. Let me find a post I had about it....

Got to the hospital 7am. I was a fingertip dilated and 90% effaced. Started pitocin 930am ish. Was at 4cm by 215pm and got an epidural. 715pm still at 4cm, dr manually broke water. 915pm a 7cm. 1030pm fully dilated and started to push. Less than an hour later dd was born.

Crashing....

I had a great induction at 39w 2d. My BP had started climbing out of nowhere last two appointments so my Dr. said it was time. Plan was for cervidil and then pitocin but when I arrived that day I was already 3cm and able to move right to pitocin. Did pitocin for 12 hours to get me to 5cm. Then they broke my water and within 3 hours I was ready to push! Good luck!!!

Re: Induction Anxiety

I had a good induction a few days early - Just be patient and don't let the dr rush things. We did 2 rounds of cervadil and then moved to pitocin when I was 4 cm. That afternoon ds #2 was born.

I was successfully induced. My water broke but I was not dilated/effaced at all. Went to the hospital around 9:30pm, they put in cervadil to dilate me and that jump started the contractions (did not need pitocin), got epi around 4am, at about 9am I was ready to push, DS was born right before 10am.

Don't worry about what you read online. Everyone is different and most importantly just try to stay positive and keep your eye on the prize (delivering a happy/healthy baby) and you'll be fine. My induction ended in a c section (but at my request) because my body was resistant to the epidural (very rare) and we weren't confident he'd fit through my pelvic bones because I started to regress and swell. I just couldn't bare the pain anymore :( The induction process itself went fine, it was a piece of cake. And honestly, when all is said and done and your beautiful little baby enters the world you won't even care how he got here.

Induction Anxiety

I had a medically necessary induction due to low fluid. I eventually was able to deliver vaginally but it was pretty awful leading up to that point. I'm doing everything possible to avoid an induction this time around. My birth story is linked in my profile but be forewarned, it's a doozy.

I have been told since day 1 of my GD diagnosis that they wouldn't let me go past my due date for fear of the baby getting too big to deliver and the placenta deteriorating.

I had a successful induction: started cervadil at 6pm by 10pm in active labor, I dilated too quickly to get an epi, but I lived to tell the tale and just before 4am, less than 12 hours later, baby was born :)

The plan was cervadil from 6pm to 6am the next morning and then start pitocin but I was one of the few who went into labor on cervadil alone!

Oh interesting. I never heard that when I had GD with #1. They just monitored me closely. Baby measured ahead but she was born relatively "normal" sized - 7lb 5oz at 39w when at 37w4d, the sono showed her well over 8lbs.

Righttttt.

This it the plan my doctor wants and I'm fine with it. Of course I'd rather wait for the baby to come on her own but I also don't want to risk something happening with the placenta or her shoulders being dislocated when she is pushed out.

Just sharing my experience. That's all. And everyone's experience is different. Good luck.

Re: Induction Anxiety

I was really nervous when I had mine because I also heard nightmare stories and did not want to end up in a c-section. My first 2 deliveries were easy.
I wanted an induction because of babysitting issues since we live in NJ and our family is in NY.

My OB said as long as I was dilated even a fingertip before induction she would do it. I was 2cm I think and was scheduled 2 days before my due date. Let me tell you, it was the most peaceful delivery I had. As odd as this may sound , I was able to enjoy the whole labor and delivery from start to finish. By the time I was hooked up to pitocin it was 10am and she was born at 5:30pm that same day. That was my shortest labor. My other 2 were 12 hours from my first contraction to delivery.

I never had cervadil and I think it was because I was already dilated.

Re: Induction Anxiety

I had a wonderful induction experience with DS. I was induced with Pitocin at 39 weeks due to chronic high blood pressure. After about 7 hours they broke my water and within a hour after that I was given the epi. I labored pain-free for another 6 hours until I started pushing. DS was born vaginally and after the epi was administered I felt nothing.

I can only hope my next deliveries go as well as my first. I had a great experience.

I also had two successful inductions! My first was actually easier than the second bc my second was too big and got stuck. Nothing to do with the induction obviously.

Re: Induction Anxiety

Are you dilated? If so I really think that helps with the induction process. I also told my dr I did NOT WANT A C SECTION. I know some times things can be scary and its warranted but I told him I was willing to lay there for days hooked up to Pitocin and waiting for the baby to come down. LOL. Anyway long story short, I was on pitocin for 6 hours and not much was happening but once they broke my water things picked up a lot!

I had GD but my baby measured small and was labeled IUGR so they wanted to induce. MY GD was diet controlled, and my numbers were always good but they scared me about the baby being small so I did the induction at 40 weeks. (I pushed them off as long as I could.)

The induction went great, I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced at the start which I was for 2 weeks prior. It was a very easy process and I got the epidural when I was ready, etc, etc. I would do it again! My body just took well to it but I was a nervous wreck after hearing so many horror stories!

PS - baby wasn't small in the end 7lbs 14.5oz

As of my appointment on Tuesday, I was 1 cm dilated and the baby was wayyyy low. I am hoping things can progress a bit more in the next week or so since it seems like that helps. Thanks!

I had to be induced for low fluid at 40w 2d, and it went smooth. I was high, and not dilated or effaced at all so my labor was long, but it was successful. I read up so much of induction, c-section and all that stuff, but when I walked into the hospital, I swear my mind went blank with all the other stories I read. I'm sure you are in great hands with your dr, and everything will go smooth :)
