infant - reflux? only sleeps in chair

I'm just wondering if anyone else's newborn is having major trouble sleepign on his or her back in the bassinet?

DD is almost 5 weeks. She has slept on her back in her bassinet a handful of times, but I usually end up jus tputting her in her papasan chair because when I put her on her back she starts gurgling and spits up and is totally uncomfortable.

I have tried gripe water - it didn't do anything. I tried swaddling, I tried a sleep sack, I tried putting her feet/legs up a little by propping them up a little with blankets. SOMEtimes she will sleep on her side in the bassinet during the day when I'm awake.

Anyone else have this issue? I am not sure if it is a big deal, I just worry that she will get so used to sleepign in that chair she will never sleep in the bassinet or crib.

Any thoughts? TIA

DS is 6wks old and just started Zantac because he has acid reflux. He sleeps in the FP rock and play sleeper which is a little inclined. We try to lay him on his back in his crib and he only goes about an hour and then screams so I am guessing the reason was because he was so uncomfortable, so now with the med, we are keeping at it to see if he will go longer.

IMO, I would not worry about where she is sleeping as long as she is getting sleep and is comfortable. As time goes on, slowly transition.

A friend of mine had to put her baby in the car seat and then in the crib months because it was the only way she would go to sleep.

My son is 7+ weeks old and he still sleeps in a chair. He is on zantac and he will spit up when I am changing his diaper. I am going to talk to the doctor again but I hope it gets better soon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: infant - reflux? only sleeps in chair

My dd slept in her bouncy chair from a few weeks old to about 4 months. She has horrible reflux, and couldn't sleep on her back either. I wouldn't worry about spoiling your lo now, at that age you just want to make sure they are comfortable. I would put the chair next to our bed so we could all get some rest. We transitioned to the pack n play in our room around 4 months, then to the crib around 5 1/2 months. FM if you have any questions. Have you tried elevating the head of the bassinet or crib w/ towels or blankets rolled under the mattress? We couldn't do this with our bassinet b/c it was round didn't work so well, and made gaps.
