A question for anyone whos infant sleeps in bed with you ...

how do you transition them into their own room ???? and at what age ???

DD coslept in a little bed that went in between us then she went into a bassinett next to our bed then after her PICU stay in march she has only been able to sleep in our bed ..partly due to us wanting to monitor her breathing but im worried that she will never want to be away from us Chat Icon

DH and i have no problem with her in their with us right now and we are enjoying the bond we have together being so young but im thinking i should begin the transition soon

any advice

Re: A question for anyone whos infant sleeps in bed with you ...

Robbie and Noah slept with us until we moved into the house - Robbie was 5 and Noah was 3.

We played up their new room BIG time. We also still allowed (and still do) family cuddle time in our bed. We snuggle, talk and tickle before they get shuffled off to their own room.

For a few weeks one of us actually had to lay in bed with Noah on the bottom bunk (sometimes Robbie would join us) - just until he/they fell asleep.

But we made the transition successfully. It was NOT easy - but the best advice I got and can give is to be consistant! One trip back to your bed will set the whole process back!

Good luck!

We co-slept until DD was around 6 months. Its hard for her to fall asleep in the crib so i let her fall asleep in my bed then move her into the crib and she will sleep there until she wakes up for her 6 am bottle. then she will go back to sleep with me in my bed. it works for us.

hmmmm ds is 9 and half months. so from about 5-8 months he slept perfectly fine in his crib post transitioning him from basinett at 5 months. he would wake up around 5 or 6 for am bottle and i would bring himinto bed with me so i could get those couple extra hours of sleep. well slowly it has become earlier and earlier for a while it was 4am, now its more like 2, he starts crying histerically in crib, rubs eyes wants to be picked up, but eventually after 10-15 min is able to fall asleep however when one of us walks away it repeats, so we have just been bringing him into bed with us....so for i don't know what to do. i guess CIO, but we are not big fans of it. co sleeping however works for us, we don't mind too much , i am sure that by the time he is two he will eventually sleep on his own.

Ryan coslept until 7 months. He started waking up at 4am and refusing to go back to sleep. The second night he did it, I nursed him and put him in his crib. He slept a solid 4 hours which I don't think he had done since we was just a few weeks old.

From that night on crib it was. After 3 night of CIO he went in to his crib no problem and slept through the night.

My DD slept in bed with me until she was 2. It wasn't all night though. She started in her own bed & then she would climb out of her toddler bed & get into bed with me. We transitioned her into her own twin bed in her own room when she was 2 & we moved into our apartment.

wow thats great....i just don't feel like i need to feed him in the middle of the night as he is not hungry.... ideally i really would like to have my bed back with just dh in it. i wonder if there is anything else other than cio that we could do.
