Give her the paci! Whatever works at that age.
I'm ok giving her the paci now for sleeping. But she wants it frequently throughout the day and I wonder if she'll ever be able to self-soothe!
she will - i promise. we did CIO with DS at 5 months, for us CIO also included taking away the pacifier. we did it cold turkey - did not allow him to have it at ALL not even during the day.
if you think that you will be able to do CIO down the road, then just let her have the paci now.
the only problem we had was that from 4-5 months, DS would fall asleep no problem with the paci but wake up during the night when he lost it
and she IS self-soothing - she just uses the paci to do so

That's the same problem we are having! Poor DH has "paci duty" at night, and whenever she spits it out, he's the one that has to go back in and give it to her. Last night he just stayed in there for 45 minutes because he was sick of having to get up every 2 minutes!

Fortunately I've never had issues with DS going to sleep in his crib. I always put him down awake and he just drifts off to sleep. I guess I'm lucky. I have read that you can rock them until they are in a deep sleep and then put them down in the crib most likely they wont wake up.

Re: Infant mommies--putting baby down awake?
i basically set upo a routine so that my dd is "half" asleep when i put her down.. we do a bath every nite..(i dont always wash her very well, sometimes she just lays around in the warm water and "soaks" then she gets her bottle (which is the only one she gets in the day so she knows its a bedtime bottle, i nurse the rest of the time), then while shes awake, we go in her room, read her Goodnite prayer book in her glider, and i do give her the binky for this..and by the time we're done shes either half asleep or in a lite sleep.. i put her in the crib, with her binky until shes settled in the miracle blanket, and then i take it out, put my hand on her tummy to let her know im there for a minute, she looks at me, and falls asleep (and smiles at me first almost every time )
i dont give her the binky AT ALL through the nite unless she wakes up much earlier then 5 or 6 hours..then i will..
she does use the binky mostly in the car and for naps right now.. i will not be giving it to her more frequently, since my ds was almost 3 before he gave it up, and i dont personally feel comfortable with having that situation again..she does have a blankie tho, for naptime, and when it touches her skin, she immediately closes her eyes..its kinda funny lol

Re: Infant mommies--putting baby down awake?
I fought the paci for awhile. But it truly helps DD soothe herself to sleep. She is 8 months and I still have to do paci duty here and there, but she loves it and I am not planning on taking it away anytime soon!

ohhhhh.... i feel your pain. i got NO sleep for a full month because of this.
how old is your DD? it might be time to take it away... not do CIO but really work on getting her to fall asleep from a drowsy state. do you have a bedtime routine?
i know it is hard, i have been there - sleeping has really been our only issue with DS, he is such a good baby otherwise. but once we did CIO at 5 months my life has totally changed and i am a much happier - and well-rested - mommy!!
