Infants-- Poop Question

DD hasn't pooped since Friday...this is not normal for her, and we haven't changed anything in terms of formula, etc. Should I call the doc? Is this normal? She's not straining or anything, and toots a few times here or there. She's 5 months and gets formula and BM both.

Re: Infants-- Poop Question

I would call the doctor. DS is 5 1/2 months and has never had that problem, the longest was 36 hours.

I believe a day is normal, but more than that is too much.

Thanks-- this is the first time for her too.

Anyone else experience this?

Re: Infants-- Poop Question

This happened to DS when he was 4-5 mths. I think. He was a once a day pooper. He went for 5 days without. I waited to call the Dr. because he was fine. He wasn't in pain or running a temperature. I finally took him on day 5 and she said that it was very common and that he was fine and healthy. After that he went from once a day to once every 4-5 days. Maybe your DD's schedule is changing.

Re: Infants-- Poop Question

Yes but at 4 months. He pooped 2 times in a 7 day period. And he was still exclusively on BM at the time. I freaked out. He was pooping every day before that.

We called the ped. The told us to use the thermometer trick with a bit of vaseline. He pooped a little bit. Then again did not poop for 3 days. On the 2nd day I used the thermometer but it did not work. On the following day, daycare told me he had 2 HUGE BM. Messed up all this clothes..... I did not care! I was so glad he pooped. He had poopie exclusions all the time after that with major leakage. Chat Icon

Now that he is on BM and formula, he is still OK and poop but it sure is "smelly"....Chat Icon
