Initial certification & being mentored..help!
Hi everyone..I'm certified with Childhood Ed. 1-6 and Literacy B-6. I've been a building sub for two and a half years. In Feb. I accepted a job at a DOE charter school.
I'm currently teaching reading to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Next year I will be keeping a minimal amount of middle school classes, the majority being pushing into their regular ELA classes just for support. The bulk of my schedule will be reading intervention for K-2 (my dream job! so glad I took this MS one to lead me to it).
My question is, what are the requirements for being mentored to count towards my certification? Especially when I have two certifications, I'm not sure how that works to move on to the next certification. My school is a bit iffy on it since they haven't had a new teacher in a while. They're thinking of assigning me the 1st or 2nd grade teacher. How often would we have to meet?
TIA for any help!

Re: Initial certification & being mentored..help!
You do not need to be mentored by someone who has your certification. I am a mentor teacher and I am certified Biology/General Science 7-12 and I am currently mentoring someone who is Special Ed 7-12.
At my district, we need to meet for a total of 60 hours throughout the course of the year. These do not need to be formal meetings: emails and casual 5-10 minute chats count towards your 60 hours. At the beginning of the year, we also observed each other which also counted towards our hours.
If you have any other questions, let me know. I was trained over the summer and just went to a conference on mentoring so a lot of it is fresh in my mind.

The certification does not matter...you just need to be mentored for 1 year!
