innie vs outie belly button--when did you know what it would be?

DD's umbilical cord fell off today. her belly button right now is sticking out a full half inch from her body.

both DH and i don't remember DS's belly button hanging out like that (he has an innie) so we're wondering if she's going to have an outie.

any ideas of when you'd know for sure?

DD's stump fell off the day we left the hospital!

we thought for sure she was going to have a HUGE outtie because of how much it stuck out, but over time its become an innie, very shallow, but still an innie

I'd say within a month, DS's belly button was definitely an innie. His stuck out like that too and when we asked the ped (not that we cared) he said it's common to be like that and his belly would "grow into it".

It will probably be an innie. DDs stuck out ALOT, until her belly grew. It's just sticking out due to the small bellies but goes in as they grow into the skin.

all 3 of my babies looked like innies when the stump fell off.

My dd had the same thing and about 7 weeks started to become an inny

I thought my DD was going to have an outie until it kept getting bigger and turned out to be an umbilical hernia.Just keep an eye on it.Now at 4 months she is fine and it pretty much healed itself.
