Insurance coverage question for the "experts"
Currently, we have a $12,000 lifetime maximum for IVF. Based on your experiences - does anyone know if this would cover 2 rounds of IVF? I'm rather sure it's enough for 1, but not sure about 2. I know some stuff like the meds and such aren't included in that.
(On a related note, MY work's coverage has a $50,000 maximum!! But, of course, when we chose to use DH's insurance, infertility coverage wasn't even on our radar. I wish I could switch over now, but I think I have to wait till the year's end ).

I think a round of IVF is in the $8000-$9000 range. I'm not sure if that is the procedure alone though or the meds for the cycle too.

Re: Insurance coverage question for the "experts"
I have 10k lifetime and it has covered 2 fresh cycles for me. Most insurance companies have a contracted rate so they, the dr office settle with a much lesser amout. I have paid out of pocket for fresh cycle and it cost me $11,375.00 which included the procedures. Monitoring is put through your regular insurance and not through "advanced infertility". This may be the same for your insurance company as well. It's good because it first deduct from your 12k cap. I had both united health care and Oxford freedom. If you have any questions let me know. I'm a pro at this unfortionately!

Re: Insurance coverage question for the "experts"
that should just about cover two cycles. i think my IVF billed to the insurance company was around $5-$6k. that's obviously the reduced insurance rates, if you pay out of pocket its about double that.

Re: Insurance coverage question for the "experts"
Thanks for the info! This is all good to know. I'll be really happy if it'll cover 2 cycles (currently, I feel like I won't want to do more than 2).
I did find out some good news that to switch to my work's insurance, there's only a 3 month waiting period once I fill out the paperwork. $50,000 is a lot better than $12,000!

8-9K sound about right, although if you go thru one fresh, you may have some frosties and FETs are MUCH cheaper!
Good Luck!!
