I am out on disability right now and am using my sick, personal and vacation time right now so I continue to get a regular paycheck. Once that has been exhausted I will use my short term disability insurance which is about 50% of my income plus whatever the state gives me. It's not a lot but it will help.

No...there is no other income replacement other than company-paid leave such as vacation, sick time, short term disability insurance which will give you a certain % of your income up to a certain amount minus what the State will pay you (for instance mine covered 80% of my pay, up to $1000 per week minus the $175 that NYS disability will send you) Even though I make more than what they cover, they said that they do not cover above the maximum at all. Your disability is also taxable. The first 5 days of "disability" are considered "on your own"...you must use your company paid leave for them, none of the insurance companies will pay nor will NYS. You get payments for 6 weeks after the birth on short term disability regardless of type of birth. You can an extra 2 weeks of $175 payments from NYS if you had a c/s. There is long term disability, just in case GOD FORBID, you had medical issues that prevented you from going to work. Long term is NOT for newborn care. So it does NOT kick in unless you have (again GOD FORBID) medical problems as a result of the birth.
Some women try to go out on disability from their dr 2 weeks prior, use the insurance and save their vacation for AFTER the 6 weeks post-partum are up.
