Insurance question re.: ER visit
I needed to bring DS to the ER 3 weeks ago and my co-pay for the visit is $100. Yesterday I received a bill from LIJ Pediatric ER for $375 for the sevices provided by the ER room Dr. It also says that this bill is separate from the fee paid to the hospital. Does that sound right? We were their for 4 hours and all they did was discomfort my son, give him 2 doses of tylenol and sent us home. I thought all that would have been covered by my insurance?

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
It should be covered by the insurance. I would call the doctors office. I think either they made a mistate or are trying to scam you.

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
You insurance may not have paid the bill yet which may be why you're getting a bill. Otherwise, call billing and make sure they have all your correct insurance info.

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
You should probably call the insurance company to see if they paid the claim yet. They will probably tell you to submit the bill to them for payment.

I wouldn't pay it. Your insurance company probably hasn't cut them the check yet, so they are still billig you. I had those same problems and I called my insurance company and they were able to tell me when they would send the check.

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
Most ER Dr's dont participate in insurance. Any ER you step foot in is gonna have like 50 signs that say that the Dr's bill is seperate from the Hospital charge.
I work in Insurance, and most larger insurance companies, depending on the type of policy you have will go ahead and make the payment for you because of the circumstances.
There are some employers who require the Insurance not to make any exceptions and you could be held responsible.
First thing is call the Insurance, see if it was billed to them. Ask the insurance if they pick up the bill as a courtesy. If they say no, Ask them how to appeal.
Good luck.

Right, you should not pay it. Even LIJ will tell you not to pay it! LIJ's billing is set up so that you automatically get a bill until they receive payment from the insurance company.

This happened to me when I went to the ER. I called the insurance company and they took care of it and apologized!

This is excellent advice. We just resolved the exact same issue with LIJ's ER (including the $375 charge). Since it was an ER visit and we didn't request that specific doctor, our insurance covered it. Our only responsibility was $25. Call your insurance. We have Empire.

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
Since the visit was only three weeks ago, I highly doubt your insurance company has even seen a bill. They probably goofed.

Call your insurance company. Hospital's are notorious for billing patients when they should not. It has happened to me NUMEROUS times and it is a PIA.

Re: Insurance question re.: ER visit
I know with some insurances you have to contact your insurance company when you go to the ER-I would call and find out-you should be covered.
