Interest rate?mortgage shopping

With whom do you think is better to go to?
A broker or a bank?

Re: Interest rate?mortgage shopping

From my experience....if you go with a bank, you might wind up doing more paperwork yourself....but they are pretty straight forward. With a mortgage broker, they do mostly everything....but all the brokers I've dealt with all seem shady. That's not to say that all brokers are shady....that's just been my experience Chat Icon

Re: Interest rate?mortgage shopping

we worked with a great broker for our first house...but for our second, we got a bank loan officer recommendation from our lawyer...we figured to meet with him and make things easier since the lawyer and bank would be connected...it was the best thing we could have done...

it just happened that the bank got us a great rate too (as low as it could have been)

Without a doubt.... BROKER. But you have to go to the right broker... someone that will not jerk you around.

The rate I got which was a major bank was much lower through my broker than the rate advertised on the bank's website.

I would go with broker. They more or less do everything for you. I've done all my mortgages through brokers only.

we used a broker. she was SO patient and explained EVERYTHING. i am surprised to hear the hell some people have gone through w/ all the paperwork, ours was minimal.

Re: Interest rate?mortgage shopping

We used a Broker/Bank...they financed the mortgage, and then sold it after we closed...but they did all the work and all we had to do was show up for the closing pretty much. And we got a good rate too, 5.75%...

Broker. We used a bank - and I would definitely not recommend them.
