This is my thought on it...
It is certainly possible to have kids after 35 and even after 40. However, it is 100% proven that for women, fertility takes a sharp decline in our 30's, more specifically after 35 and even bigger decline after 40.
I really am interested in working at a fertility clinic as a nurse once nursing school is over. I think everyone deserves a chance at having a family. But statistics are pretty accurate. I just think that if possible, women shouldn't put off having babies till 40 because of career or just "waiting". Of course its different if someone isn't married until later and they don't have much of a choice. But to push it off because they think it'll be easy or similar to trying at 30 isn't wise. Fertility definitely take a big dive by 40 and egg quality also suffers. Women do get pregnant naturally all the time after 40, but I don't think women should count on that when deciding for themselves.
ITA with this.

Not a medical professional, but from what I have heard and read, I tend to agree.
Also - there are higher risks in pregnancy at a certain age , including to the baby, right?
One relative had a baby at 40 and the child has low muscle tone. Not sure if it's related to that.. But I do wonder.
Of course, people have to decide themselves what's right for them.

The risks of birth defects alone aren't just due to the age of the mother, in fact young mothers are also at high risk of having a down syndrome child. Babies born via IVF are also known to have more issues than naturally concieved children, regardless of the age of the mother.
Not everyone is married at 25 and can have their kids before 30, and I think the new evidence shows that 35 is not the end all to be all. 40+ is much different than 35, and many of the pregnancy issues at 40+ are related to the overall health of the mother as this is a time in life where things like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc start to show up.
