"Interesting" conversation at school today
So some of the mom's at the kids's school know I'm a photog. One mom whom I adore always asks about my weekend shoots and what I've done.
So she asked how my weekend went and I said that I've been doing some different stuff - we had a group of mom's standing around chatting. I mentioned that I've gotten into some day after and trash the dress sessions and even a boudior or two and explained what they are.
One woman in the group went OFF on me How I could allow women to "demoralize" their wedding dresses......at first I thought she was kidding but she wasn't. She said I should be ashamed of myself and that I'm setting a bad example to my kids.
I sat there with my mouth on the floor and then I did it.........I laughed right in her face. I said that I feel very sorry for her that she cannot appreciate something so beautiful and so much fun. I'm sorry that her kids will never see their parents wanting to show their love and have a little fun at the beach. Or that their mother doesn't feel sexy enough to surprise her husband with beautiful pics of the woman he married.
Then I walked away while the other mother's stared at me not really sure what to say. When the heck did people become so uptight? Jeeeeeeeeez!
Needless to say she won't be a client of mine

That's insane. There is nothing offensive about the style of pictures you are talking about. She was completely out of line with her comments and I am sure that if other people heard her they agreed (that she was out of line).

Re: "Interesting" conversation at school today
I'll be honest - I've seen some trash the dress where they cut up their dress and I don't like those. I don't think its "demoralizing" but just not my taste. I don't really think anyone would actually do that to their wedding gown but you never know.
I just can't believe that woman - I actually feel bad for her. Its sad that she can't see what I see when I'm doing these sessions. Sad that she'll never experience what its like to have that much fun.
She can say what she wants to me - I don't much care what she thinks of me. After this year I'll never see her again b/c her child is in a different district and she isn't a church member.

I would make a tshirt w/one the images on it... I hope you know what i mean... of one of your pics or even a collage of your trash the dress shoots.... Just to put it in her face, and show her what beauty comes from those shoots, just so that she can put her foot deeper down her throat!

Re: "Interesting" conversation at school today
And this is probably the same woman who goes home at night and promptly pours herself a glass of wine and pops a couple of zanac....
Id thank my lucky stars if the only thing I had to worry about was the example I was setting for my children for allowing a couple of grown women "trash" their wedding dresses...
Which actually gives me an awesome idea for a photo shoot come the spring...although Im not sure how to pull it off....

Re: "Interesting" conversation at school today
I kind of automatically have an issue with people who make snap judgements like that. She is telling you off without even SEEING what the photoshoots are about? Demoralizing? Is she kidding?
I would have told her that I would worry more about her children who are going to be subjected to listening to her particular brand of rigidity of thought and her inability to accept that not everyone thinks the same way that she does.
Kudos to you for standing your ground. Your pictures are GORGEOUS.

What I'm sorry....demoralizing to marriage & a dress?
Right, right...the only thing I have to say is after 2 children & almost 9 years of marriage, I've considered divorce. Why? So I can do have pictures like this.
They look like it really ruined their marriage.
