That's correct. The senator is saying we don't do enough to help working moms.
The deputy is saying it's not the government's job.
I just looked up her profile on wikipedia:
Quote from the Labor Department site: Ms. Czarnecki carries out the vision put forward by President Bush and Secretary Chao of a prepared workforce to meet the needs of both workers and their employers.
Explains a lot, huh?
I LOVE how republicans tout family values and how America is losing them and then says crap like this.

Funny how Ms. Czarnecki is not married and probably has no children.
I just love how freely people comment on stuff like this when they arent even in the situation and literally have NO CLUE. Man, this pissez me off!!

Re: Interesting News Item - Family & Medical Leave Act & Pregnancy
BLAHHHH
"Summer of 2006, was widely reported about her television appearances: instead of being identified as a Bush administration official, she is described as a “conservative analyst.” On Fox News, Czarnecki has been described as a “conservative strategist.” The Washington Post reports her television role has been cleared by career ethics staff at the Labor Department"

How lovely it is that we are among the five countries, 4 of which happen to be under-developed, that doesn't provide paid maternity leave...

Re: Interesting News Item - Family & Medical Leave Act & Pregnancy
I thought we got at least 6 weeks for a regular delivery and 8 weeks paid for a c/s.
This woman clearly has never carried or had a child!

Yes but not paid - you might get disability - which is what $170 before taxes - not 6 or 8 weeks full pay unless you are very lucky to work for one of the few companies who pay that. Also FMLA only applies I believe if you have been working for a certain amount of hours a year (or working 1 full time year) and I believe you have 50 or more employees.

I LOVE how republicans tout family values and how America is losing them and then says crap like this. This is one day after there was another news story that exposed the US as the most Family un-friendly work environment in the greater economic world (what we used to call first world). If I can find the story I will post the link. It was appauling.

Re: Interesting News Item - Family & Medical Leave Act & Pregnancy
Can I smack this woman upside the head just ONCE???
Czarnecki says it would cripple many businesses if they had to pay an employee to take time off to care for a newborn or a sick parent. She says it's up to each employee to plan for those life events.
Yeah, living paycheck to paycheck makes doing this just so easy. I bet if Ms. Cramecki ever had issues with TTC or INF she would be shouting from the rooftops that not enough was being done in this country to help families get pregnant and save the enormous monthly fees it costs to leave a newborn in daycare. Maybe if I didn't have to worry about how much it actually cost to acheive this pregnancy and to have my child in daycare I could afford to stay home or take care of a sick/ailing family member
Canada offers it's employees a year maternity leave. Not sure if it is paid though - will have to check. But parents are expected to be at home with their newborns!
