Interesting thing I learned about diaper rash..
So this past week DD had a rash that just wasn't responding to air or Desitin. I called the PED and the nurse told me that it sounded like a yeast based rash. She told me to go buy Lotrimin- specifically for *jock itch* and it WORKED.
Also: corn starch can make a yeast rash worse and ALWAYS make sure the hiney is TOTALLY dry before putting ointment (Balmex/Desitin,etc) on or else moisture gets sealed against the skin.
Why didn't I know these things?
Oh- and you should have seen DH's face when he saw the tube of jock itch cream in DD's room.....

Oh boy, that's good to know! I don't usually let her little hiney air out, now I will because I don't know if I can handle lathering her up with jock itch cream

Our Doc told us the same thing! We were told to buy gyne-lotrimin. I felt so weird in that aisle. I never had to buy it for myself, and I now I am buying it for my baby
They said to just use the cream, NOT the inserts

we are actually on perscription anti-fungul ointment due to this. It's so painful if it goes un-treated.

Re: Interesting thing I learned about diaper rash..
The best thing I have found to help a diaper rash is milk. I warm a bowl of milk and use cotton balls to let it drip onto the affected area (thick towel tripled up under butt). Once my DS had a really bad rash and I soaked him in an inch or so of milk. It seriously helps, it's the enzymes in the milk. My ped also told me you can actually put milk of magnesia right into their diaper. I still apply any of the following - Butt Paste, Triple Paste, prescription compound, Desitin, etc. but the milk is the real help to soothe it.

Lotrimin- specifically for *jock itch* and it WORKED.
They can market it however they want, it is still an anti-fungal cream and will work if the fungus is susceptible to it.
