Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
If your baby was switched at birth and they were at the age that they are right this second...could you give your baby back? What would you do in terms of this other baby out there that is really yours? OMG...what a decision... I know for that story it didnt get to this point but what would you do if your child was switched at birth

Re: Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
Ive often thought about this..There was that family that the parents were killed in the car crash and the child was being raised by the grandparents...Im pretty sure they kept the child that they had raised rather than switch the kids. They saw each other frequantly I believe.

What a horrible choice to have to make. I remember this was an episode on Private Practice and I sobbed for the families (even though it was fiction)
I don't know what I would do..... I too would want both but I could never imagine giving up DD at this point.

Re: Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
I get tears in my eyes even thinking about this and I know I would run away with my DD if anyone tried to take her now even if she wasnt my biological child.....its hard to say how I would feel, I would want both for sure but if push came to shove I would keep DD as there is no way I could give her up. This is the reason why DH followed DD's every move once she left my womb and was put back in my arms hours later - he stood outside the nursery window watching

Re: Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
I can absolutely say i know this is my dd b/c of her head was sooo coned but i did think about it.. The only thing that made my stomach at ease was I want both of them!!! I couldnt give my little bean up and wouldnt want someone else having the other bean. I would have to say sorry to other mom, but im taking BOTH!!!
I pray to GOD that never happens to anyone.
eta: i had mentioned in the NFR, that my hospital also did my dds footprint before she left the delivery room.

Based on your responses...you couldnt let your child go (and either could I) so would you be willing to walk away from the biological child. I would be SO sick! Wasnt this a true life movie many yrs ago...forgot the name.

I honestly couldn't even imagine this happening to anyone - and don't know what in the heck you do. I would absolutely want both. No doubt about it.
So scary!

Re: Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
OMG...I can't even imagine...I would def want both...I was deathly afraid of this when I gave birth to my son and I tracked the nurse with my eyes as she was cleaning DS up, weighing him, etc...my mom was taking pictures and I saw them take a Polaroid of him right away...and then they messed up on the bracelets...they put the wrong file # or something like that...and my doctor flipped. But at that point I knew what DS looked like and there is no way that I could mistaken another child for him. But its so scary.
This actually happened to my friends uncles...they were switched at birth. They were the only two babies born on that day in that hospital...years later, the town started gossiping how the switched uncle looked like my friend's family. They ended up finding out through DNA tests that he indeed was their uncle, and my friend's grandmother just accepted him as another son...it was unbelievable when I first met him...he looked JUST like my friend's grandmother...the other uncle (the other switched child) is still a close part of their family.

Needless to say, I would be devastated. I couldn't give DD up...but I would imagine the law wouldn't be on my side.

I was thinking the same. I bet the law would make you give the baby back. I think that happened in that movie.

Re: Interesting topic on NFR:Switched at Birth
couldn't give my DS up. I think i would opt to keep the child i have had all along, that is if that was an option. Obviously there is another family involved. But if it were soley my choice up this child i havice, even though i would die knowing that MY flesh and blood was with someone else, i could NEVER EVER give up this child i have had for 7 mos

The Switched at birth story was that a nurse switched the babies on purpose. The one family had a bunch of kids and the other family had only one kid and the nurse knew the child was ill so she switched the babies so the family with one wouldn't have a baby that died.
I remember when it happened.
