It's very true. From birth-5 years old are the most critical years for forming who you will become as an adult down to abandonment issues, intimacy issues, affection and your trust of other people, for example.
A psych professor I had in college always told us that no matter what you did, make sure you always hug, kiss and tell your children how much you love them during those first 5 years.
