ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
I am 4w2d & I am going to have bloodwork done on Saturday. I have to wait until 8 weeks for my first sonogram.
I have a few questions....
How much blood do they take?
What do they use it to check for, besides checking to make sure you are really pregnant?
Will I have to have more blood drawn before my 8 week sono?

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
i didn't have any blood drawn before 10 weeks. the dr did not give me the script for the regular PG blood work until 8 weeks. my guess is that you are only going to have one or two vials taken to check your beta and progesterone levels, and after your 8 week appointment, you will have 7-10 vials of blood drawn to test for everything else, like if you are a carrier for certain diseases, etc.

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
They will take about 6 viles of blood-just look away, you will be ok.
They test for immunity to things such as chicken pox etc as well as pregnancy levels.
No, you shouldn't have to have more blood taken before the 8 week. You won't have blood taken again till the 12 week appt where they prick your finger in office, or when you do the glucose test later in pregnancy.
Congrats!!

I am seeing a RE...I had had blood done frequently. My last blood for beta & progesterone will be tomorrow. YEAH.
Then in 3 weeks when I have my ultrascreen I will get my finger pricked in the office.

they took 3 for me it think my 1st visit. I am not even sure what they test for.
They usually test the protien in your body via urine sample

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
They took 8 vials at my first visit. They do a standard panel of tests including blood type and genetic tests (Cystic Fibrosis, etc.). I don't recall having any other blood taken until the Sequential Test at 11 weeks.

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
I had 1 vial drawn at my first visit (Fri 3/28) and then I had to go back 3 days later (Mon, 3/31) to have a second vial drawn. They were testing my HcG level because the ultrasound only showed the sac.

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
My first OB appointment was at 6 weeks. They took about 6 or 8 vials of blood, weighed me, took my urine, checked my blood pressure, gave me a Pap test and wrote me a prescription for prenatal vitamins.
At my first sonogram appointment at 8 weeks, all they did was a sono and then I met with the doctor and we went over some of the blood test results and stuff like that.

Congrats again! Since I was spotting for 8 days early on, I first had HCG and progesterone levels done. I went on a Tues and then again on a Thurs to make sure my HCG levels increased. After my 6 weeks appt and sono, I went for more bloodwork- and they took 12 vials of blood.
They check to see if you are immune to MMR, chicken pox, HIV, Hepatitis and other diseases.
It depends on how your doc works it as to whether you will get more blood done before your 8 week appt or not. Good luck!!

Re: ok...here sare my 1st set of questions....
Hello,
I am about 3.5-4 weeks along and had blood taken yesterday. They just took about 1 or 2 vials to check my hormone levels. I just got my results back and my levels are perfect :) they also did the internal sono but it was too early to see anything.
