Interior doors- painted or stained?

DH and I are getting a new door for our bathroom because the current one's nasty. I don't know if we should paint or stain. We will eventually replace all the interior doors so they match (and they're all old anyway) so I want to make a good decision. I've seen painted ones that look great and stained ones that look great and I can't decide.

We replaced, or are in the process of replacing, every single interior door with 6-panel pine doors. We have stained them all and then gave a good coat of polyurethane. They came out awesome. So I prefer the stained door as opposed to the painted door.

Thanks ladies- I think I am leaning towards stain too. It would have never occured to me, but I was in a friend's house and her doors looked so nice.

I can't wait till we can replace all the doors!

My father stained his doors but he also replaced all of the moldings around them and the baseboard too and stained them to match.

We decided to paint because we already have hardwood floors throughout and it would look "too woody"

Ours are painted because the apartment came that way -- but I prefer stained doors and trim. However, a light stain. I don't think I would like a dark stain.

Re: Interior doors- painted or stained?

We've just done 4-panel pine doors and painted them white with chrome handles. I think it looks nice and clean.

Just one word of advice - if you're buying and staining at different times, make sure you make note of brand and color of stain taht you're using so that they all come out the same.
