Internal sonograms...
Does anyone know how long is usually takes to get an appointment for an internal sonogram? I havent received the script from my doctor yet (shes sending it in the mail) but if it takes a long time, I was wondering if I should call and schedule it now. Anyone?
Also, does internal sonograms hurt? I hear from others they are just uncomfortable...is that true? How long do they usually last and what do they actually show in the long run? TIA!

Re: Internal sonograms...
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing but I just had one during my consultation with my RE. It wasn't painful at all, it was a wand with a lubed condom over it and the doctor used it to check out my uterus, etc. I was able to watch it on the screen

Re: Internal sonograms...
I just called to make the appt and they told me I had to drink 4 glasses of water before hand and not go to the bathroom until after the test because they get better pictures like that. Anyone else ever have to do this?!

Re: Internal sonograms...
This sounds like what you're having done - doesn't sound painful - they're just going to put the lotion on your abdmomen and scan the wand over that.

I have my xrays from yesterday's HSG and it's so weird to look at them.

I agree with Donna - I've had quite a few internal sonograms (due to problems with my endometriosis, etc ) and they are entirely pain-free... you dont feel anything at all really

This sounds like an internal sono to check for cystic fibroids -- I had this done three times. It does not hurt one iota but keeping all the water in your bladder is rough. They put a wand inside - not the same as when you get an internal sono during pregnancy - much smaller - and they look around. Then you go pee everything out, and they do a topical sono. You can see it all on the monitor but you won't even know what you are looking for, never mind at.
Each time I went I had a "growth" on one side of my uterus or the other -- but then that is because the unreleased egg is gathering stuff around it (sorry I don't speak technically) waiting to be inseminated, or else is released later as you period.
Does your Dr. suspect you have fibroids? Is that why you are getting it done? Mine did because I am hairy --
I told him, that's just the black Irish in me!!

Re: Internal sonograms...
I am having it done because I truly think that it was a step that was missed throughout all of this. I havent gotten my period in 6 months and before that was very irregular as well. My gyno put me on birth control in hopes that it would regulate me and after stopping it, it seems to have made my cycles worse. Instead of doing a sono on me...she sent me to have an hsg test done when I have heard the order of things should be sonogram next. I am actually hoping the sono shows something so we can figure out this problem.

Re: Internal sonograms...
I have my HSG xrays too - I need to bring them to the RE with me. It was REALLY weird looking at them! You can clearly see the R tube is blocked but its so weird seeing that foreign thing in there -

Re: Internal sonograms...
Just had my first one done on Thursday and it was a piece of cake (just like everyone else said) -- I'll take ten of these over an HSG any day of the week!
