International Adoption Anyone?
Is anyone here interested/in the process of adopting internationally? DH & I have decided to adopt internationally (probably from China) and I'd love to hear from others who are interested in doing the same!

Re: International Adoption Anyone?
What a great board. I was so happy to see this.
After many years of unexplained infertility and multiple treatments, we decided to adopt. After researching and researching we decided international adoption was the way for us. We are going to be adopting a baby girl from China.
We just finished all our paperwork (it was crazy) and just send our dossier over to China on 9/23. So we have about 6 months to go and I'm so thrilled!!!.

Karen,
I'm so happy for you! How excitng! I will definitely be talking to you about this alot more in a few months if that's ok with you! 6 mos is not a long wait at all! I thought it would be much longer! Which agency are you going through? I really didn't think there was anyone else on this board going through this!
ETA: Deb -- do you have a timeframe? Like when are you actually going to go thru with it?? Which country are you thinking of going through? We are considering Korea or China and have gotten info from New Beginnings and Great Wall of China.

China Ladies--
I actuallyspoke to someone last night from New Beginings. How do you like them? Who is your Case Worker. I spoke to a woman name Fay. I was referred to her by a co-worker who used her years ago when she was a different agency.....
We were going Ukraine, but now since they have closed/not accepting new applications, I spoke to Fay and really listened to her about the China adoptions. I am quite interested.
Any feedback you have would be great!
Thank you!

The person I work with used New Beginnings. I believe overall, she was very happy with them. They were going to adopt from Russia, but then changed their mind and then went to China instead. Part of the decision was based on the fact that they would have had to make 2 shorter trips to Russia, instead of 1 long trip to China.
I think they were also able to get better health and medical information on the baby from China than what they would have received from Russia. Good luck!

My best friend just filled out her paperwork to start procedures with New Beginnings and so far she is very comfortable with them. SHe was actually adopted ( 31 years ago) herself from a sister agency of New Beginnings. So she is confident with her and her husbands choice. I will keep you all posted on her progress.

Thanks!! We are getting so excited. The time for referral (which is the time after you send your paperwork in untiil you get matched with a child) is about 6 months. It took us about 5 months though to get all the paperwork together, have our homestudy and get INS approval. Then after we get the referral you travel about 6 weeks later to pick up your baby, so for us overall it's taking about 13 months from start to finish.
We are using Children's Hope International. They have a regional office in NYC and have been great so far. There are so many agencies that do international adoption, you just need to find one that you are most comfortable with and gives you the services that you require. I saw a few people are using New Beginnings and I have heard very good things about them as well. I didn't even look into them during my search.

Re: International Adoption Anyone?
We adopted our son from Russia. He was 19mo when we brought him home 6 months ago. He is absolutely wonderful, healthy, and happy.
Good luck to all of you in the process. Please let me know if there anything I can do to help.
