Internet connection compter question

I have an OLD surfboard cable modem. Can I hook this up to an old computer and get internet service? It doesn't seem to be working. Do I need to call Cablevision?

the modem needs to be registered with cablevison...if you already have a modem in your house, you need a router to split the connection.

if you regesiter another modem with cablevision, they will charge you 50/month for another connection which is dumb as you already have service.

You can buy a router (wired or wireless) for 50 dollars.
