Wireless internet question
I don't have wireless in my apartment, but I have been able to get on through I'm pretty sure the guy who lives underneath me.
the past few days, even though it says i'm connected and have a strong signal I can't get on internet explorer. I tried to repair it and it says everything is working fine.
Would he know someone was hacking onto to his service and would he be able to block me from getting on? What else could be wrong? I can still get on the internet when I go through the cable modem...
Just wondering...I was liking using the laptop while I was lying in bed and not being tied to the stupid cable modem.

Re: Wireless internet question
It sounds like he put up some firewall type thing to block unauthorized people from using his account.

That sounds right to me too. I had to do the same thing, too many people in my building were using my connection adn I couldn't get on when I wanted to. You can try refreshing the list of available networks and try tapping into someone elses.

Re: Wireless internet question
Well, I'm not sure. We have a wireless network on our computer upstairs (it's a loft so it's all open - I can see the thing from the living room.)
Sometimes, for seemingly no reason, I can't connect from the laptop downstairs. It'll even say that there is a strong connection and that I am currently connected - but it isn't. Sometimes I need to go upstairs, unplug the modem and replug it in and then I can reconnect.
Obviously, since it's not in your apt, you can't do that. I have also gotten it to work by disconnecting and then reconnecting to the server, or repeatedly trying to "repair".
The only thing I will say is be careful when you are "borrowing" the internet from someone else. We actually did that for a little while b/f we got our own, and I was told that the person (of course this is if they are fairly computer savvy) could see what you were looking at, and possibly get personal info from that.
