Interview questions

It's become pretty clear that I will need to start looking for another job very soon.
It's been almost 6 yrs since I was on an interview and 12 yrs before thatChat Icon

Can anyone help me with what I should ask on an interview? I'm drawing a blank.

TIA

Re: Interview questions

I dont usually ask quetions on the 1st interview. or at least keep it to a bear minimum.

If and when I get called back on a 2nd interview and they draw up an offer, that is when I will ask about salary, job requirements, dress code, hours, vacation time offered, any anything additional that relates to my job. for me in my field it would be: auto expenses, discounts on fabric's & furniture lines they carry, etc.

good luck, hope you find something you love!!

I hate interviewing!

Re: Interview questions

I would ask about the people I would report to, how my work would be evaluated and by whom, what are the expectations for the position and how long they expect it to take for me to be up and running completely. I would ask about additional training, benefits, hours, any questions about the company itself..etc..culture.

Don't ask about money. Do google them and find out as much as you can about the firm before you go.

Sorry to hear about your job. I wish you would work in the city..I could help more.

I don't agree with the above poster (well I do on the hate interviewing part!) IMO, asking questions is indirectly a sign that you are interested in the job. Stay away from money, benefits, hours, etc. but questions like these are good:

- what's the day to day like here?
- what do you like best about the company? what do you feel is the biggest challenge?

people love to talk about themselves and on that note, ask about your interviewer...how long has s/he been there? where were they before?

other good questions:
- what would you expect me to accomplish in my first few months here?
- what is your hiring timeline looking like?
- is there anything else i can provide for you or tell you about myself?

you need to remember that they're not just interviewing you. you want to make sure that YOU are a good fit for THEM.

good luck!

Re: Interview questions

All I can say as an HR recruiter is that whatever you do, when I ask you, do you have any questions, never say "no"..always ask something...what is a typical day like....how many people work at this location...etc etc..

Good luck!

Re: Interview questions

Excellent tips everyone, thanks!!

Another question. This may sound strange but is it OK to take notes during the interview.

I do remember when I interviewed in the past, as soon as I walked out of the office I forgot 1/2 of what I was told because I was so nervous.

Re: Interview questions

Just think about things that you REALLY want to know about the job.

What is a typical workday like?
Do the people in my dept work well together?
Why is this position currently open?

Yes, I think it's fine to take notes.
