Introducing David & Mandi Nicole
I am a Mommy!!! I guess you can say I've been a mommy for 11 days. Coming home with twins can be a bit chaotic, which is why I haven't had the time to sit down to let you all know about it until now.
On Monday, Oct. 16, at 11:40 am, I was getting ready to see my OB for another sonogram, when my water broke. I called the office and was told to go straight to the hospital. Excited and nervous, at the same time, we took off to the hospital, phoning everyone we knew!
By 5:15pm, my OB gave me Cervadil because I was only 1 cm dilated. The Cervadil had a "different" reaction on my than expected (according to the nurse in charge) so I was suffering in so much pain from 5:15 until 12 midnight when they finally gave me the epidural -- at that time I was 5 cm and fully effaced. (Apparently, the cervadil did more than just thin out the cervix, it put me into "labor" and I turned into ***** for 7 hours.) My poor DH and the nurses had to listen to me scream and cry and, yes...even curse for hours! Lamaze went right out the window...I could not believe how painful it was! I never expected to react that way to the pain. I felt better afterward, when the nurse assured me that this was an adverse reaction to the medication. I always thought I had a high tolerance for pain and believed I'd be able to handle labor...no problem. I was even planning on a "light and late" epidural, so that I could go along with the Lamaze exercises.
The epidural was very helpful and sent Satanic Stacey away. I was so much more comfortable! I was still waking up every 5 minutes with pain, but it was nothing compared to what I had experienced before. They upped the epidural at 3:30am after hearing from DH that I was still feeling contractions. Apparently, I should have felt nothing at that point. Once they did this, I was completely comfortable – I wish I could have felt that way all night!
By 3:45am (Tuesday morning) I was fully dilated and they told me “this is it!”
At 4am, they wheeled me into the OR, in case I needed a C-Section. I was told that with twins, once the first baby is born, there is a chance that the second baby will take advantage of all of the space and turn around. That could mean a Section. I did not want that, I was determined to go vaginal if at all possible! After delivering my beautiful son, I immediately told them to let me push. Only 10 minutes later, my beautiful daughter was born. At 4:36am, David was born and at 4:46am, Mandi Nicole was here too!
David (6lbs) (18 ¾ in.)
Mandi Nicole (5 lbs 13 oz.) (19 ½ in.)

I am so overwhelmed with joy and love for these babies! I feel so blessed!! More news to follow!
Thanks again to all of you for your kind words and well wishes! I missed chatting with you for the past 2 weeks and hope to be on a schedule soon so that I can be here visiting again real soon!
