Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
DD is 9 months old and a great eater. Doc gave her the okay today to basically have most foods that we are having. At this point I have been giving her purees and making them thicker each time. At what point do I go right to table foods? When do I introduce "new" foods (in lieu of another or in addition?) For example, he told me to give her eggs - do I give her eggs and her normal breakfast or in lieu?
I realized once I left his office this morning that I should have asked him these questions
TIA!
ETA: She has 3 teeth with the 4th coming in.

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
I go next week and have the same questions....
I'm thinking that if they are being fed table food, then their meals should be well balanced but that whatever you feed, is it. If I have eggs for breakfast, I'd give some to DS but make sure he also has a piece of toast and a fruit with it. KWIM?
Maybe someone with experience will confirm, but that's my FTM opinion. :)~

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
I would start giving her table food broken up in very small bites. Give her what you're having and see what she likes and handles well. Remember it might take a few tries before she gets used to having to really chew and liking the solid texture so don't be discouraged if she hates it. As far as whether to replace other foods or not, every baby is different. DS LOVED his baby oatmeal with pureed fruit until just a couple of months ago (about 15 months) so I never even tried to replace it with something else since it was so good for him anyway. I would just give him something like eggs to try as a snack or maybe for lunch with something else.

oh, and I don't think teeth have much to do with it. They pretty much gum food at this point anyway, so make sure the food is soft enough for her to "chew" with her gums.

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
I basically just replaced the purees at meals with "adult" meals in the same "genre"
instead of farina with fruit, he gets tiny pieces of pancake or waffle or french toast with his mashed fruits.
or, he'll have egg and then some fruit.
this morning he had a touch of greek yougurt mixed in with some pureed peaches, cut up strawberries and a coule of "morning o's" (wholefoods version of cheerios)
for lunch, he'll have diced veggie and fruit instead of pureed. avocados are great for this, and also steamed/roasted and diced sweet potato or squash.
for dinner, he gets the same as lunch generally, but I'll try to mix in some rice or pasta in with his veggie.
I haven't given him meat yet.
not sure if this answers your question. Luce is almost 9 months and has 3 teeth out, 3 almost there!

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
Thanks ladies - I don't know why I can't figure this out lol.
I gave her fruit/cereal and a scrambled egg for breakfast this morning. She had about 1/3rd of the egg (loved feeding herself) and I shoveled some fruit/cereal in there in between.
Now onto lunch

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
My DS is a gagger, so we're slowly introducing table foods....very slowly. He's 10 1/2 months old.
He's mastered puffs. This past weekend he had very small pieces of a waffle, a pancake, a few tiny bits of a breaded chicken cutlet, and a taste of a meatball.
We feed him the new stuff first, in case he gags and throws up.
We give him a few bites, until he loses interest, and then we give him his regular meal (oatmeal, stage 2 foods).
He's not ready to have table foods replace his regular meals yet. I don't think he eats enough of the table foods to replace the nutrients he gets from stage 2 foods. Maybe in another month...

We introduced new foods slowly, a lot like the PP's described.
I tried to limit the amount I did in case she had an allergic reaction.

Re: Introducing new foods/table foods questions...
When I started table food I did it as prtactice. So I would still give them their normal cereal/baby food but would add some table food as well. Once I knew they liked things I phased out the baby food and replaced with table foods feeding them a carb, veg and protein at each meal.
