Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
I don't know the etiquette on this so please help me out....last summer we were invited to DH's friends engagement party out east. It was a very lavish affair. There wedding is at the end of June and we have not received a wedding invitation. They were invited (and came) to our wedding. Should i just assume at this point we are not invited to this wedding? Is it normal to invite one to an engagment party and not the wedding??
The wedding is going to be in VA and I am pretty positive this is not going to be a small wedding so they had a big engagment party type of thing.
Just wondering if this is normal. I don't see too many engagement parties these days....
And yes DH and him are still close even though it's more through work.
I don't really care if we are invited just wondering if this is normal.
TIA

Re: Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
It is very poor etiquette to invite someone to an engagement party and then not to a wedding. I will tell you that we have friends getting married in the end of June and have not receieved teh invite yet. Also, I think wedding invites can go out between 6 and 8 weeks before the event.....

Re: Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
It's very rude to be invited to the e-party or any pre-wedding related event and not the wedding itself.
Is there a possibility the invite was lost in the mail? That happened with a few of our invites.
Maybe there's a chance they are sending the invites right about now being 6-7 weeks before the wedding.

you "should" be invited to the wedding if you were invited to the e-party... maybe they are late on sending the invites??? If it got lost in the mail, once the RSVP date passes they will probably call you and see if you got it.

The wedding is in VA, i would assume they might of tried to get them out earlier, but maybe not.

I agree too. I would be prepared to go down in June.

no. Look out for an invite - I'm sure it's coming.

That is so tacky! Emily post would be disappointed. You don't invite people to an eparty and not the wedding.

True, but if the guests know where in VA and the wedding date, it's not enitrely necessary.
Is anyone else in your immediate family invited?

Re: Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
we just got an end of May invitation maybe 3 weeks ago, so I would give it some time. I cannot believe that anyone would invite someone to the e-party and not the wedding

Your invite may be on the way. Pretty tacky to be invited to the Engagement Party and not the wedding.

Re: Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
i agree with everyone else...very tacky to invite to the eparty and not the wedding. HOWEVER, is it possible the invitation got lost? Do you know any of the other guests and if so, have they received their invites yet? Or perhaps, they are only sending them now (but i got married end of June and sent my invites out 2nd week of april but you never know these days). Its also possible that they just eloped or decided on a small civil ceremony...maybe their parents drove them nuts with planning and just decided to do the quick version. Another possibility is (we have to think realistically with brides these days) maybe there's an A list and a B list?

Re: Invited to Engagement Party and Not Wedding?
it could be that your invitation hasn't come yet. i know we are invited to a wedding june 30th and we still haven't received the invite. but if you don't get one, i'd think that was rude!
