iPad as Ereader?

Does anyone use an iPad as an ereader? Pros? Cons? I'm considering one, but only if I can use it to read.

My BIL has an iPad and I really like it, but since it's not an eink screen (like the Nook, Kindle, Sony Reader, Kobo, etc) it's supposed to be harder on your eyes to read for a long time. It's like reading on a computer screen.

Plus, IMO if you are primarily getting an iPad to use as an ereader it's a waste of money and the iPad's resources. The cheapest iPad is $499, there are ereaders closer to $100 and then you can spend the difference on ebooks.

But if you were getting an iPad for other reasons too that's different.

I decided on the wifi Nook over the Kindle since there are so many more places to buy books from, plus I can borrow from the library, which you can't do on a Kindle. But the Kindle gets great reviews too.

I love my iPad...I use it for a myriad of things, an eReader being one of them. The iKindle app is fantastic, the iBook app is nice however the books are more $$ than iKindle.

I agree with the above poster, if you're going to use the iPad for all it's worth, then run out and get it. If you're just going to use it for an eReader, then I would go with the kindle or nook.

I'll definitely be using it for more, BUT reading is my #1 priority and if I'm going to spend the $$ I want to be able to get max usage and not have to buy a second reader, KWIM?

I don't have the ipad but I do have the kindle and I do read books on my ipod. The ipod/ipad screen (except size) is the same and my eyes do tend to hurt a little more using it than when I read on my kindle.

If I were looking right now, I would consider the Nook because of the ability to borrow books from the library. Even at a low cost of $9.99 for kindle books, the amount of books I read adds up and you can't share amongst friends like I heard you can on Nook. The only feature about the borrowing is you have a time limit, sometimes I am super fast reading, and other times I have to put it down and come back.

DH won an iPad and uses it as an ereader (among other things) andis very happy with it.
